Mackenzie Mgbako

Ut oh, oh snap, dukies have Roach enter the draft and now this? LOL

Flip's return makes Duke the likely preseason #1. If that kind of stuff has any merit at all whatsoever anymore, lol.
Either he got really negative feedback on the draft, or he just made a big time mistake. There's a solid chance he plays a lot of Center minutes and his softness is continually exposed like Tennessee did.

Developing squabbles aside...

Given the choice, would you rather have Ingram or? Mgbako at the 4 next year?

I think Ingram could play the 3 and Mgboko could play the 4. Or vice versa. I think they could certainly play together.

But if I had to make a choice, I'd take Mgboko simply because Hubert kind of stealing a duke recruit would be a big thing in the rivalry and maybe would incentivize Mgboko when we faced off.

Why not both? We only have 1 forward on the roster (Withers) and he may have to play some Center if Bacot sprains an ankle or Washington is still gimpy.

May or may not scare off Stevenson (who has had every chance to commit but hasn't yet) unless Mgbako is 1-&-done. Really relegates High to the rear and Washington to the 5.

Mgbako is 100% a one-and-done.

Washington was already a 5. He doesn't have the lateral mobility to defend the perimeter, which is necessary to defend stretch 4s.

If High plays much his freshman year, we're in big trouble.

I agree with all of that but IF Cadeau and Jackson were to come early, we would have to have an incredible year for each to realize their one and done dream.

The only other caveat is sometimes the players are the last to know. Specifically, Washington already being a five. He may see himself as a face-up stretch four (see Walker Kessler).

In any scenario, I think you go hard at Mgbako until he either commits or says no.

The NBA drafts on upside, measurables, and lots of things that don't really require a great freshman season. Lively from dook was a disappointment this season and he's still going lotto.

I think that is a GREAT QUESTION! Mgbako is one monster of a talent, it would be extremely hard to pass on him. But, I think I would go with Ingram, I like that Ingram is pretty physically developed and he has played in the Pac 10 for 2yrs now, he is more of a known than Mgbeko even if Mgbeko has way more upside. I would have taken him over Withers, definitely over Wojik, I like him more as a long 3 than a stretch 4. I do think Mgbeko is more a 1&D guy simply because the NBA loves 6'8" guys that can stroke it from outside and Mgbeko can do that, I think maybe better than either Withers or Ingram but I will take the more physically developed guy that is accustomed to the college game at a big time level as opposed to the freshman that will have to adjust to the new level of play, especially the physicality of the college game. But the other part of this is I think Ingram can become a really special player, much more than what he has so far shown in college.

Mgbako is an NBA 3. I'd rather use him as that here as well.
In part because Withers is not a 3 at all, he is strictly a 4 that can cover the 5 for brief stints. And well, the other part is Mgbako stacks buckets!
