Led us in Passing Yards (134), Rushing Yards (148), and Receiving Yards (37). Has any one player ever done that before? He also led in Receiving Touchdowns (1) and tied for the lead in Rushing Touchdowns with 2. Absolutely great game from #12 leading us to an unlikely, unbelievable win in a place where we've had a hard time winning lately. GO HEELS!

Really not a good thing. Too much talent on this team offensvely for this to happen. MW worries me with the slow starts, miss easy throws. See why some want the 2nd stringer

While I will agree that I don't want to see him lead us in receiving yards, and would like a much more balanced attack in the running game, the dude was the unquestioned MVP today. Big time plays on third downs, getting yards in bunches, and stepping up when he was needed. Does he have flaws? Sure. But I was basically commenting on the fact that in a game on the road against a team that we have only beat 6 times out of the past 20, in a week where his position as starter has been questioned by many, the guy played a big time game and led us to a victory.

Anybody that doesnt want MW as their starter is crazy. He has tons of talent that you cant teach. Without him today, it might have been a different game.

I agree he had a great day!

only if this was his first year in this offense and RS Soph and not a 5th year senior. i would be jumping for joy. I expect more from him to take the next step. To make plays and use his playmakers. Just saying let's make the next step. Great win!

Had that GT cornerback held that pick-6 ball thrown out on the right flat right to the defender and we had lost the game, I can assure you that the vibe on this board would be vastly different.

MW had himself a very good game today, its his decisions and long route thrown balls are his weaknesses . .

Just saying . .

Oh, that's 100% fair and accurate. Lucky for us, that didn't happen ;)

That's fair enough, and I get what you're saying. Hopefully we can continue to build on today and get some more great wins (and I really hope that they aren't as close)

He didn't really have a slow start... unless you are saying the refs should have ignored GT tackling switz on a pass attempt, or called two BS holds on first down plays, or not called the targeting on bug on the sideline... that was just the first possession we had.

Now is a really great time to have a bye week followed by possibly the two worst teams in the ACC.
This should give Quise a chance to focus on dialing in his accuracy, and give the coaches a chance to reassess some of the play calling, particularly in the red zone.

I think we're all in agreement with your statements Billy. That lucky break was more than offset by the horrendous officiating in Tech's favor however. I think we can all agree on that as well.

Guys... that "pick 6" that was dropped, it wasn't on MW... MW made the CORRECT READ... we had ONE DB on 2 receivers, if Singleton had done his job that was a walk in TD. But, for some unknown reason, he stood there and let the DB jump the route. ANY block at all from him and it was the easiest TD ever. It was a bad play by one of our players, so if you have to blame a player, blame the right one.

Singleton missed a block that could had killed us. Not Quise fault at all. Actually showed his IQ in recongizing 1 dB on 2 wrs so quickly

Then call me crazy !

MW had great stats yesterday, he is a very good running QB and I doubt anyone would dispute that. But when it comes to running the ball I really want to see our very talented set of backs lead the way, feel free to call me crazy for thinking that way. I prefer a QB to be a solid passer to give balance between run and pass.

Yesterday was a unique set of circumstances, wet field, an opposing defense that scrimages against their version of option but we kind of out optioned them from a look they were not used to. So for this game running the ball fit and using the QB out optioned the option team. Teams are going to key on MW, they are going to leave a spy on him, our Oline did steller work yesterday but put us in a situation where we have to put the ball in the air and for me MW just isn't the guy. Yeah, he will throw a great pass but then he will throw something that just leaves me scratching my head.

So yeah, maybe I am crazy thinking the circumstance fit what MW can do yesterday but we are not likely to see those same situations any more this season. I still say, MW is Tim Tebow, lots of things he can do but he is as likely to pass you out of a game as he is to win it for ya. I see him as a situational type of guy, bring him on for certain packages but unless we pass as often as GT does he IMO is not the primary QB we need. Let the david is crazy calls begin.

While I somewhat agree, most of us Tar Heel fans were saying the opposite when we played South Carolina....Now that Marquise has seemingly been unleashed again and is not as timid as he was against the Cocks, we are moving the football up and down the field.....Finding that fine line between MW doing too much or not doing enough, is the trick moving forward IMO....

It's hard to argue that the Ga. Tech streak would have ended, had Marquise played any less agressive than he did yesterday?

He was a flat out stud, especially in the 2nd half....

I used to love MW and over time I found myself taking up for him too many times to the point I started to not like him. I'm glad he was able to show me (and you) what he used to be able to do and that it is quite possible he can continue to do it. Congrats on the gritty effort, MW.

If I was a defensive coordinator. That's what I would do. Put a spy on MW and make him beat you with his arm. And if he Still beats you with his arm or his legs. Tip your hat to the young man and move on.

The spy sounds like a great way to shut down the QB run but it's not really that simple.

This offense is geared to a mobile running qb that can also throw the ball. As an offense you take what the defense gives you. Mw did a great job of doing just that. He knew what the defense was giving almost the whole game. When the running game was there he took it. When the pass favorrd us he took it. This is what will drive an opposing d cord crazy. A qb who can recognize whats there and take advantage of it. Then it comes to execution and not looking at fasle keys ie. Blitzs, stems and switched coverage. Great mental game as well as physical by quise.

So why did it take us 3/4 of the first half to get going? Did it take staff that long to figure GaTech out? o_O

He was the best player on the field. I don't care who steps up and if it's MW, I am okay with it.

I'll take it any way I can get it. You know as well as I do that GT is our kryptonite. I don't care how we beat them, as long as we do.
Agreed, it just seems crazy to me that as a team that faces them every year, knowing they are going to run 9 out of 10 plays, we can't stop them. We've been able to win the last two against them because we've outscored them (and MW played a major part in both of those), not because we really stopped them. I'm with you, though, don't care how we do it, just as long as we do it.

I think it was a big improvement defensively. Looked bad early. But we held GT to 31 points. We give up yards to everyone. But haven't been breaking so far. And I will take considering how bad we were last year

I'll agree to that as well. Really, we've been playing very solid defense all season so far. Before this game, the most we had allowed in a game was 17 in a neutral site location to SC. Through 5 games this season, we've allowed 104 points (20.8 PPG). Compare that to the first 5 of last season where we allowed 210 (42 PPG)! Our season low of points allowed last year was 20, and we've held 4 out of 5 opponents so far to fewer points. We've definitely improved a lot on that side of the ball, and while there's still room to grow, I'm tickled with how we've looked defensively compared to last year.

On a note related to my original post, I just saw MW got ACC Offensive Back of the Week, so way to go!

Against that offense, you really can't even draw too many conclusions on how good we are, IMO. It's just such a unique thing to stop (in modern times) and you just gotta get through it. So I can't get too upset that we gave up 31 points. Keep improving and get better as the season goes on.

Actually this year we've allowed 90 points this year, which is 18 PPG :)
You are right, I guess I hit 14 too many times haha. I agree that it's a unique offense, and obviously, we aren't the only team to struggle with them, I just don't get how the teams that face them every year like we do can't do more to stop it. I'm not upset we gave up 31 really, just a sort of general statement that I feel like we should be able to do a better job of stopping them. But we are moving in the right direction, we held them nearly 200 fewer yards and a dozen fewer points than last year's game. In fact, it's the fewest yards they've had against us in the Fedora era and 2nd fewest points. Again, I'm very happy with this win in many facets of the game. Only real complaint is our slow start, but that just led to our biggest ever comeback.
