MD loses guard...

Hate it for the kid! Really hope he recovers fully.

It's too bad for the team as well since I expect Sulkymon to continue to be a bad seed.

Tough loss for MD, Sheed was going to start at the 2 anyway next to trimble, but Wiley would have been a really good contributor for them. hate when kids get injured and have to miss their season especially with how hard they work during the off season.

Zebras rarely change their stripes, but he really does have great incentive to play well. If he decides to become a team player, then MD has a talented addition that could become a problem!

I too hope MP is ready to play against MD, but not to the point that I would want him to come back too fast! I think our team will be seasoned by then and we should be able to win without him if we play to potential. This will be a close contest either way.

Wiley was to have started the exhibition game (Sulaimon supposedly volunteered to come off the bench), but Maryland fans still expected the Duke transfer (how strange is it for Terp fans to root for a former Dookie) to be our primary SG.

This group of Tar Heels don't have a good reputation for defense, and I thought Maryland would win a game between them in March or April, but likely lose an early game in Chapel Hill (Carolina, playing at home, has established a much clearer identity than the Terps). However, if Paige doesn't play or isn't up to speed, Maryland has a chance. Since my wife of 39 years did her graduate work at UNC, one of us will be happy that evening. I wish your team well, other than on Dec. 1.

What makes you think your Terps will be better than the Heels come March or may?Pretty cocky there Terp fan.

I've been suggesting the same thing. Mainly because of Diamond Stone. Most of our guys are closer to their ceiling because they've been here for a while.

The difference isn't as great with UMd as with some other teams like Duke or Kentucky, because UMd is also fairly experienced. But they'll still be integrating new guys in this year (Sulaimon and Carter, in particular) plus Layman will probably be playing more at SF, which is his more natural position.

So it's really a matter that UNC is closer to a finished product now than most other teams. Which gives us an extra advantage now (or would if Marcus was healthy) that may dwindle over the next 3 months as younger, less-experienced teams catch up.

The response from What Would Jesus Do captures my thought process - as good or better than I could have expressed it. Thank you.

I think the Terps will be really good by January, but I question whether they can win on the road against a top team like Carolina on December 1. Stone and Sulaimon are getting most of the attention among the new players, but PF Robert Carter (transfer from Ga. Tech)has significantly improved, and he may be the top player on the team.

I wouldn't say I was cocky, just optimistic. That's the joy of early November - we can all hope for the best. Perhaps our teams will meet in Houston. Best wishes until then.
