Meeks ?

Still a cheerleader. Not even practicing. I think it will take a few games to get his legs back. Hopefully soon. We needed him tonight

Bone bruise... nearly 3 weeks now and he still is not able to practice because of a bone bruise? Never had a bone bruise so maybe I under estimate it but something just does not seem to add up to me. Last season, there was a mystery illness that Meeks developed about this same time and he sat out a lot of games for that. Maybe I am guilty of watching the black helicopters but I suspect there is more to the story that the UNC staff does not want shared. I am not suggesting anything other than his injury seems to me more serious than a bruise.

Hope you're wrong, but you do have a point.

Bone bruises are debilitating and just get worse with playing. What is so mysterious about that? Here is a quote from a doctor:

A bone bruise is a traumatic injury one sustains from a forceful impact during sports, accidents or a direct hit. It is characterized by severe pain that can last for weeks or months, and the best way to help the healing process is to rest, support, and protect the bone or joint involved and to apply conventional treatments for trauma.

It actually is one stage from a stress fracture and could easily lead to one. Once a big guy starts to get stress reactions in his joints; it could become chronic! I for one, would not risk a potential career ending syndrome for one early season game!

So then why even say the words "two weeks" if this is the case? Roy was pretty short in answering whether he'd play against Fsu per his quote. Sounds a little exasperated. Things seem to drag a bit longer than expected with Meeks. Hope I am wrong and he is back soon.

For those that have played and sustained a bone bruise, they aren't a laughing matter. A lot more serious than you would think from the description

Because 2 weeks was the estimation until it didn't respond as well as hoped.

My son had a bone bruise in his wrist that he got the first day of football practice this season. He was out for 3 weeks in a cast and had 2 x-rays and an MRI to rule out a break. He didn't return to practicing full time (wide receiver) until close to 5 weeks from the injury. It was still bothering him in the last game of the season. They hurt and are hard to deal with, especially in joints like his.

When he DID come back, he had a hard time with catching the ball the rest of the season and I am not so sure he didn't re-injure it in his second game back in action. That helped keep him on the sideline pretty much the rest of the season except for some time at free safety on a rotating basis. Granted, this was HS football and not college basketball, but I can't imagine it would be that much different.

When I was much younger (40 years ago), I was diagnosed with a "mild" bone bruise
in my right heel from playing basketball. I was told to stay off my feet as much as
possible and not play sports for 2-4 weeks. Of course, it started feeling better after
a few days and I went back to trying to play some basketball and it kept hurting.
Took about a month for me to really not feel pain when I even walked on my heel.
I see the value of letting Meek's bone bruise be fully heeled so that it doesn't keep
flaring up on him all season. Get 100% better Big Man!!

Why are you guys trying to say he should rush back? We aren't playing real basketball games til mid-February at the very earliest. We can lose a game or two this month, beat Duke 1 out of 2, win the ACC and still grab that #1 seed in the east.

This is obviously an injury that has a risk of reinjury, why in gods name would we risk that in early January?

As for the stretch missed last year, that was due to some fatigue virus he was fighting. While it wasn't mono, I believe it was a similar illness that they never were specifically able to diagnose. He will be back hopefully when we need him most. Hicks has played really well in his absence (something like 7 games in a row with 11/12 or more points?)

Not saying he should rush back but we are playing a REAL game tonight vs FSU...

We need him for this game but we desperately need him for the month of February, it is brutal!!! Let's get it healed up completely so it isn't a season long issue.

Did I hear the commentator say toward the end of the game that they are expecting him for Syracuse?

Idk if they said 'expecting' but something on the lines of he could play ...said he's done more in the past few days than he's done since he's been out... Whether he plays Saturday or not it's encouraging to know he's getting close

They said he'd practiced with the team and then did 1-1 work with Hubert after.
Also said he warmed up with the team prior to the game.
5 days till Syracuse and then another week off so I think we might see him get some minutes at the Carrier Dome

Apparently, we did NOT need him tonight. (as I have been saying for the last 3 games) I trust the bigs we have playing and am so happy we have the luxury to rest him until he is 100%! Our entire team has stepped up and Brice and MP are out of this world! JJames complainers are all pretty quiet and all others except JJackson have outplayed expectations.

Rest up Bigun; we have your back!

Even if we lost last night, in the big picture, is it really worth risking reinjury and losing him in March? That answer has to be no.

don't shoot the messenger, but at some point, Meeks will have to decide that he wants to play. He looks awfully comfortable on the sideline and there was a report floating around that Roy has had to light a fire in his butt about rehab/treatment of the injury and still putting in work to be productive when he returns.
