Memorial Day Honors

My grandfather (U.S. Air Force), uncle (U.S. Army Special Forces), and father (U.S. Air Force) all served. None of them died in combat, but thousands of other families have lost loved ones in service to our great nation. God bless them all. I hope everyone takes a moment this weekend to realize how lucky we are thanks to their sacrifices.

Iโ€™ve been rewatching Band of Brothers for most of today. Itโ€™s amazing the sacrifices made to ensure our freedom. I also attended a Memorial Day ceremony at our church that was very moving. I honor all those that have served and sacrificed on our behalf.

Watched the first 9 episodes of BoB and then took a break for dinner, I've been checking out the 'War Movies' all wknd long . . and w/o a doubt, BoB is just one awesome mini-series . . !

Donโ€™t have any relatives who died while serving, but some in our family were certainly
โ€œInterestingโ€

My dad was a paratrooper in the early 60โ€™s but missed out on going to Vietnam. FIL, however, did not. He was a Marine and was sent over right after boot camp. He was a radio operator too so he might as well be walking around with a bullseye in his head. He made it back fine though. Always he fond memories of his service

Now, his uncle was in WWII. Lied about his age (15) to enlist. Got captured in Europe and sent to a POW camp somewhere in Germany, I think. Anyway, he escaped, was recaptured and sent to another one deeper behind the lines. Escaped that one, too, and by then the allies were pushing in hard. He made his way to the front and was able to get back with the American troops as they were getting into Germany. They sent him to England and then back home. He supposedly raised a lot of hell for years once he got back, too.

My former BIL was also a Marine and served in the first Gulf War, as did my uncle.

As for the movies/series, BOB is by far my favorite. Watched some of The Pacific over the weekend. Not as good as BOB but not bad. I am a history buff, so there arenโ€™t too many war movies I donโ€™t like. Some of the older ones are great, but I think BOB and Sacing Private Ryan were the best at accuracy of war scenes.

Also loved The Tuskegee Airmen. Great movie. Black Hawk Down was a good one too. Liked American Sniper and Lone Survivor, too.
