Some sites are saying we're interested in this 6'10 225 transfer from West Virginia. Anybody have a scoop on this?

As a backup center, he averaged 4.1 pts, 3.1 rbs, and 0.5 blks in 10.6 minutes.

What stands out on the good side are excellent offensive rebounding numbers and a 74.2% shooting percentage from 2pt range. Zero attempts from deep, so presumably just a center, not a stretch anything.

On the downside are a propensity to foul, bad foul shooting (53.3%) and that he missed the last 6 games with a foot injury.

He's said to be a good rim protector.

I see James Okonkwo has also entered the portal from WVa. Another rising junior backup with good rebounding and 2pt shooting (54.7%) in limited minutes. 6'8 240. Another mediocre foul shooter, but less foul prone himself.

Both these guys are worth a look, I think. Assuming they are willing to play backup to Armando.

We have to add 1 or 2 more players for depth and at this point these are the type of players we will probably get…hopefully we can snag 1 or 2 more out of the portal! No way I wanna go into the season with only 10 scholly players! Especially when 1 or 2 of them won’t contribute a whole lot! With only 10 we are 2 to 3 injuries away from disaster

It looks like both these guys have 2 years of eligibility. They would come aboard knowing they might not get more than 10-15 minutes of PT this year. So what might get them here would be opportunity the following year.

If everybody we have returns or 2024-24, our SF-PF-C cohort looks like

Washington
Withers
High
Brown
Ingram
Powell

For size reasons Ingram and Powell aren't competition at center, and even Ingram isn't ideal for PF, imo (although he might prove me wrong this season).

Which is to say that if one of these backup guys (or someone similar) comes now with hopes of earning big minutes next year, there could be plenty of opportunity - even if everybody returns.

I like them both. I prefer some rim protection in this spot so I'd prefer the bigger guy! Hopefully one of them will agree to back up Mando and possibly earn more time next season.

Wonder how Stevenson is viewing his choice now that they have had two portal forwards join him? Grant from North Dakota State and now wagoo.

It will be interesting to see how Grant Nelson pans out in the big leagues. I would have been happy to land him here, but I'm sure he was looking for good PT guarantees.

He knew Grant was going to Alabama before he committed. And Wague is a back-up center.

As long as he gets what was promised to him, I doubt he cares.

I’d imagine he somewhat likes the fact that they are filling out scholarships. Lol. Unlike us
He's going to get demolished by the grown men he has to guard in the SEC. He's not even remotely ready for college ball. He was downright pathetic in the EYBL circuit dealing with high school AAU defenders.

I agree with your statement and still mention mine. Lol
