More stupidity from dSPN

Did Dana O'Neal even watch the game? Here is her quote: "Brice Johnson, still miffed that he was whistled for a travel call a possession early, slammed the ball in fury after being called for an over-the-back offensive foul on a rebound. As the ball bounced high toward the ceiling, the obligatory technical foul whistle came."

Brice didn't slam squat...he flipped the ball over his shoulder (when there were no refs behind him), that's how he drew the technical.

What pisses me off even more, they had the DAMNED GALL to whistle Brice for a nonsense travel when 3rd from last possession of the 1st half the ND guy took his last dribble TWO FEET OUTSIDE the THREE POINT LINE and ran all the way to the hoop with no travel call. ALL THREE REFS SHOULD BE FIRED FOR THAT ALONE!!

If we hadn't won I would have been really angry and wouldn't have held back like I did here.:eek:o_O:rolleyes:;):D

Notre Dame player did practically same thing a few minutes early causing the ball to go into the stands behind the baseline. Didn't even get a warning. Refs tried their best to keep Notre Dame in the game, screw them. Any decent ref in a game of such magnitude would have gone up to Brice and warned him. You think with all this $, the NCAA could actually train refs.

I had no problem with the T. He tossed the ball way up in the air. Easy call. What I had a problem with was the "sideline warning" against Brey and the ND coaches when they all flipped out simultaneously after a call shortly after Brice's incident. Where was the "warning" for Brice?

1. Dana O'Neill sucks. Don't read anything she writes.

2. Brice deserved the technical, and I was proud of the way the team overcame that and started that 12-0 run without him on the court. The run was of course started by Paige with a difficult little runner from the baseline.

He wasn't pissed at the refs. He knew he fouled. He was just frustrated at the way the game was going at that time. I thought the official probably could have just talked to him about it but didn't have an issue with the T either.

In the postgame PC, Brice apologized for the T. Showed a lot of maturity and leadership. But some in the media just want to paint him as some kind of ticking time bomb trouble maker.

I loved the way the team and Roy and Brice handled everything from point of the T onward. Total maturity and class and professionalism.

Thought it was so darn funny seeing Bricey run down the court with the ball tucked away safely for his last two FTs and just giving it a nice pass to the ref.

Regarding the Dana Oneal article. Pure typical lazy garbage. Just full of errors, and falsehoods. Like that this team never played d until a couple games ago. And that Brice is a head case. It is criminal that hacks like her actually get paid for such worthless lazy uninformed garbage. Whatever they do pay people of her and Medcalfs ilk, it is too much

Let me be clear, this isn't an ESPN hatred thing, it is specifically a Dana O'Neill hatred thing.

She always writes about the latest scandal and seems to really, really enjoy taking schools to task (while usually not knowing all the facts. Cough, Penn State, cough). She has an especially sore spot for Carolina. She can't even keep her disdain out of game writeups and the like that are supposed to be fairly objective, not subjective. There's plenty of other talented writers and analyst at ESPN to listen to; just ignore Dana O'Neill.

He has to have a good mature mentality because he gets mugged / fouled a lot with no calls and sometimes gets called for fouls that aren't really there....especially when he is in a matchup where he has vastly superior physical gifts- hops quickness shooting touch etc. officials trying to equalize for lesser talent. I really thought that was true seeing the UNI game in person this year. Sometimes I thought our guys were officiated at a disadvantage for "being bigger"

I didn't read her piece on this, so not sure what exactly you're referring to, but last time I checked, someone did in fact rape children there, and their longtime coach was specifically told about it, did know about it, and did nothing to stop it...

The point was that she wrote about the situation without knowing the facts - and misrepresented the facts, which skews the court of public opinion, etc. Basically the same issues we have with those that go on and on about the academic scandal without the slightest clue of what was going on with it. Bottom line is these morons shouldn't be writing about stuff that they don't know about, or care enough about to get the facts on.

They also just implied that Roy will retire if we win it all this year.

Investigation is not a requirement to report at ESPN.

You're mistaking this for a Pitt board, which it isn't. You can take that crap over there -- I'm sure there's no less than 5 threads about Penn State on the first page of PantherLair's free football board.

Thank you Hark for clarifying my point! The point was she reports on crap without fully understand the whole story.

amazing how Brice has played overall since that benchin for a few minutes against UCLA

I'm not saying Brice didn't do anything stupid and normally I would expect a T. But in a game of this magnitude I would also haveexpected a warning. It is not like he threw the ball at the ref, another player or coach, or even into the stands. He TOSSED the ball over he shoulder into the air. He wasn't even acting like the ref did anything wrong, he was clearly mad at himself/the situation. He didn't throw it 25 feet into the air, he tossed it over his shoulder. Admittedly it was a higher toss than needed but IMO deserved a warning with a short leash. It was as far as I can remember his first transgression of the evening and since it was not "that bad" I would think a warning was in order. Contrast that to Brey yelling at the refs outside the box for a prolonged time moments after the Brice T suggests the refs were making selective calls.

Yes Brice did a stupid thing and he probably is better off for it since in the end it did not cost the game, but at the time I thought something smelled fishy and I still think so. Let's hope Brice has learned the lesson as the next time it could cost us a game. That said, I love his passion and grit. Overall a much bigger plus than the occasional negative

You guys act like the media exists to write factual stories. The sooner you accept that it exists to create clicks and facts are irrelevant, the sooner that Dana Oneill, Pat Forde and Dan Kane will not bother you.

Of course, you must also bear in mind that when you click the link to read it, even for comedic purposes, you have helped to make sure that these writers still have a job and continue to write columns and stories that create clicks.

More accurately, INTELLIGENCE is not a requirement to "report" at DSPN

Actually, I am OK with him getting the T on that, it wasn't smart and Brice knows better than that. But he handled it with total class, proud of the kid for how he handled, not for what he did that drew the T. Had he not tossed the ball so high in the air it would have been worthy of a warning and I don't think Brice actually intended to toss it as high as he did but his emotions got out of control for a second, brice struggles with this from time to time. I have been waiting for one of those hard right hooks he trows after a sweet put back to caught a opposing player in the jaw, he has come close with that a couple times. I love his emotion but he does let it get carried away at times and needs to control that better.

Pretty much a 100% accurate assessment of media regardless of genre: sports, politics, culture, etc.
Clicks and sensational tabloid controversy is what "sells" - facts? take em or leave em. Its not like anyone can catch up with hacks and hold them accountable.

Maybe it was Will Rogers who said "A lie has already walked half way around the world, before the truth can even get its pants on".

Their PC BS is what pisses me off about them more than anything.Let one employee say something about the "Annonointed" one and he's fired.

I used to love ESPN, but lately they are becoming increasingly unwatchable. They employ many talking heads that don't feel the need to say anything of substance, but just to say the sensational or the occasional catchphrase. This and the fact that they think we will be swayed by them putting attractive people on TV to distract us from the fact that they know nothing! I wish sports knowledge was the defining criterion, but that ship has sailed.

I would settle for professional ethics, but.......

Go Tar Heels!
