So I know a number of you don't go to the theater very often due to the expense, but there is an app that is trying to get that price knocked down. Moviepass is a subscription service where you pay a monthly fee, and you can go to the movies every day if you choose and see any non-3D/non-IMAX movie. The fee was in the $50 a month range, but yesterday they announced it's now a monthly rate of $10. I have no idea how sustainable that is, and some movie chains are already looking to back out of partnership with this app, but for the time being, this is one heck of a deal that I'm looking to capitalize on.

I heard about that the other day and your name was the first one that popped into my head.

Haha well I am definitely going to look into it, my local theater is funny with online stuff so I'm not entirely sure it'll work here but I'm planning on trying it out. I go to the theater pretty often but if I can see as many movies a month as I want for what the price of one ticket normally costs, I'll go a lot more

I took a look at it, but the problem for me is that you have to be 18 to use it. Given the fact that the vast majority of movies I see are ones that I take my kids to, it wouldn't help me that much. I guess I could just start taking some long lunch breaks during work and catch a movie by myself.

Oh I didn't realize about the age requirement. Well, doesn't affect me but I can get why that would be a bummer.

So, bumping this thread because my Moviepass finally arrived this weekend. Worked pretty easily, was able to go see a movie Sunday using it. The cards are severely back-ordered at the moment, but it worked like a charm for me. Planning on using it again as soon as I can.

@heelz2345, you still got your pass?

I heard there were issues this past week where pass owners couldn’t use them for a day or so because the MoviePass couldn’t pay the theaters?
If he wants to use it next week, they are going to have to raise the monthly rate. I read an article that guesstimated they are losing over $100 million a month.

Mom and Dad got movie pass from Costco. They love it. I don’t go to 10 movies a year though, so soft pass

I do still have my pass but had issues with it during the outage when I went Thursday to see Won’t You Be My Neighbor, the Mr Rogers documentary, and it wouldn’t let me use the app so I paid out of pocket. I used it last night to see Mission Impossible, and they basically blocked Mission Impossible because it would cost them too much money, so I used the app for the Mr Rogers ticket last night and then walked into Mission Impossible

I had pretty much known from the start that it was only a matter of time before something like this happened but I’m still gonna ride this horse until it’s heart gives out
It would work if they raised the price, then figured out a way to monetize the information they would have. Once they did that, they could reduce the price again. It's probably too late for that though.

Yeah when it started it was more expensive; I’d be willing to keep it for $20 a month but don’t know if I would keep it for more

They just didn't think the price drop through. They figured they would just think of a way to make it work slowly, but they never thought the number of subscribers would grow so fast. The faster than expected increase caused them to burn through cash too fast. That same article I mentioned earlier also talked about everything they've had to do to raise cash including mistakes they've made with the parent company's stock. I don't see a way the company doesn't go bankrupt.
