His quality of life had to really suck the last 15-20 years. Sad, but relieved for him.

RIP

I am divided some on Ali. While I will never understand people who criticized him for declining to go to war. I always have felt the way he treated his fellow brother in the sport Joe Frazier looking back on it has never set well with me.

Greatest fighter I have ever seen, pound for pound or any other way you want to consider him, thou some that saw Floyd Patterson may have an argument. But away from the ring, I did not like his views or his associations.

He didn't mind trying to kill someone in the ring and would fight anyone but he refused to fight for his country. I can not respect that, I can respect someone not wanting to kill others that lives a peaceful life. But to live a life of violence in the ring, to be willing to fight for $$$ and not be willing to fight for his country, no, I can not respect that.

Considering he was part of a marginalized race at the time in his own country. I wouldn't want to die for a country that treated my people like 2nd class citizens for a long time and recently. But at the same time he marginalized his own people as well by the way he showed no respect to Joe Frazier.

RIP Ali. GOAT

May God be with the family.
Mike, for various reasons I've had the opportunity to meet a bunch of famous people including several of my childhood heroes in sports and music, and I can say the only time I've ever actually been in awe was briefly meeting Ali.

He was the best fighter I ever saw before the three years he lost because he would not go into the service.Imo he was still great when he came but never at the same level.David he absolutely destroyed Floyd Patterson when they fought

Yeah, he did Ken, I think I intended to say Ray Robinson but my finders musta heard Floyd.

Good riddance to that dirt bag.

I wonder if any of you have a clue as to why you have hatred towards M. Ali??? I saw the quotes of some that he marginalized his fellow boxer J. Frazier!!!! Yeah, all the way to the bank!!!! They were friends outside of the ring, when Ali was out of boxing, J. Frazier and many other prominent black athletes supported M. Ali and his family monetarily!!! You didn't have hype machines or the media pumping up these bouts in the 60's and 70's, Ali tripled and quadrupled the funds made by his opponents with the words he said.

M. Ali's case for not going to war is one that is confusing!!!!!! He was found to be unqualified 4-F status by his local draft board, but upon changing his name and becoming Heavyweight champion of the world, suddenly he becomes 1-A??? Hmmm, sounds like the establishment didn't like what he did as far as his religious beliefs and stance against the war.

M. Ali did more for humanity as a whole once he left the ring, his legacy is woven into the fabric of the US far more than many of you may realize. Love him or hate him, to quote him "I shook up the world, I'm a baaaadddd Man!!"

May you rest in peace, My Hero, the greatest Heavyweight boxer I have seen in my 53 years, and one of the most compassionate human beings God placed among us. Mike Tyson said it best, "God came for his Champion." His love of mankind knew no religious or political bounds, the world is a little less today, tomorrow and in the future without your presence.

Some of these posters on here are so disrespectful!!..easy to talk sh*t behind a keyboard...catch you out in public..and the p*ssy in y'all will come out..be a man and say why you really don't like him!!..because he was Muslim, black,or didn't bite his tongue for nobody?

Did I say I hated him? Nope. I said I am divided on him some. You should be able to accurately read posts that you quote right?

I know money in athletics back in the 60's and 70's isn't what it is today. So tell me how much Frazier benefited?

The reality is he was a dick to Frazier. Mayber Ali mellowed as he got older like many of us do. But he did not treat Joe Frazier with respect as an opponent.

Strange, I didn't know I was required to like him because he was Muslim, Black, or didn't bite his tongue? I want to make sure I understand what you are saying, if you are Muslim, black, and have a big mouth that I am now required to like you?

ya see, I didn't know I was required to like a person based on any of those things, I always thought it was a contents of one's character that decided those kids of things. And by the way, if you doubt that I say anything on these message boards that I am not willing to look anyone in the eye and say face to face, I will be glad to give you my address and we can meet up and I will be glad to repeat anything I have said here. I really don't think you will look me in the eyes and call me that "P" word, I find your use of that here to be VERY OFFENSIVE !

Are you saying those are ok reasons to dislike someone?

Are you saying those are ok reasons to dislike someone?

NO and I am clearly not saying that. I am saying those are not reasons to like or dis-like, well maybe the will not shut up portion but the first 2 are absolutely not reason to like or dislike anyone.

Again, I ask, am I required to like someone because they are Muslim, black, or have a big mouth? Are you required to like someone that is white, Christian, and has a big mouth?

You are FOS. Joe Frazier hated Ali right up until his death. I could post article after article But I am not because you can look them up yourself. Frazier was the one who lent Ali money in the 60's and was repaid by Ali's taunts of "Uncle Tom". Your claim of Ali 3x and 4x funds for his opponents is nothing more than your opinion.

I wasn't around until after Ali retired and was diagnosed with Parkinson's - so I can't really speak to how great he was or whether he was a good person or not. The fights I've seen replayed show that he had a tremendous amount of talent - and seemed to be pretty witty/funny in some of his quotes. However I will say, that if an athlete ever called a black athlete a "gorilla" in today's day and age - the reaction would be quite different than what Ali received.

I get so sick of jackazzes saying "easy to talk shit behind a keyboard" , well what do you want us to do ; see if Kimmel , Conan and who ever else has a talk show these days will book us or maybe we could just walk up and down the street and preach it? My opinion is my opinion and if you don't like it state your's but don't give me the behind the keyboard BS. By the way "didn't bite his tongue for nobody" is 2x negative.

I recognize his talent as goat. I didnt like his arrogance. I dont see him as some sort of holy, annointed ambassador of good will as is being depicted today. He made boxing great. I loved watching him fight and it broke my heart to see his body succumb to parkinson's. Jim brown made an interesting point though. He didnt go from most hated athlete ever to most loved til after he lost his voice.

Trust me..you guys don't want these problems in the streets!!..not about to go back and forth with you cyber thugs!!..if you don't feel the comment I made refers to you..then ignore it..

Changing his name to Ali was very disrespectful to his parents.
Ok..I get it!!..true colors starting to show..that's good..that's the way it should be..don't hide behind something you're not..like it when everything is brought to the light!!

Not at all. Was just making sure what you were saying!
