Name ONLY your personal top two bands of all time. ONLY two.

Mine:

1) Pink Floyd - Simply the greatest lyrically and musically in my opinion. Roger Waters is a musical genius even though he appears to be a lost soul.

2) Guns N Roses - Could have been the biggest band of all time if not for Axl's arrogance and insecurity. Their best songs were never hits.

These are mine, what are yours?

FTR, and to get back on track in this thread, I don't know how anyone could pick just TWO favorite bands. That's impossible for me to do. I agree with what @TarHeelMark said above -- I have at least 10 that take turns being my "Top 2," depending on mood, time of year, what's going on in my life, etc.

@gunslingerdick will talk to you all about GWAR. He likes them because they started out at his favorite college. UVA.

ETA: Okay, they started at VCU, I was wrong.

You made a mess of that heckle.

I like GWAR because my cousin is an original member of the group and because there is nothing like seeing a GWAR show. They're way too badass for you though @TarHeelNation11. You should stick with that hipster pop music you're always telling us about.

You are one extremely eclectic person haha. I thought I was, but dang you're all over the place. GWAR, no microwaves, rebellious womanizer turned church-usher family man, don't wear jerseys to sports games, etc etc.

All of that is correct. But don't sell me short, what you wrote doesn't tell even half the story.

Bob Dylan. Can't sing much, but the greatest songwriter ever.. Period
Buffalo Springfield. When they broke up CS&N, and Poco were born!

But I agree with many others, I have dozens of bands/artists who could be in the top two on
a different day.

I guess rap groups arent considered a band so here are mine...

Kool and the Gang
Earth, Wind and Fire

String Cheese Incident did a pretty dope Kool & the Gang set with the man himself at Lockn last year. I'm not a huge fan of their stuff but it was a lot of fun

I'm not sure how to quantify best other than they have the greatest number of songs that I like. Like everyone else, I vary by mood and day. Off the cuff, right now, I'd answer:

1) Alabama
2) The Beatles

In a few months, Trans-Siberian Orchestra will be at the top with Mannheim Steamroller right there.

Lol my wife will fight somebody for refusing to name their all-time favorite band. "What, do you not care about it enough to put some thought in it?" Discovering and learning about both new and old music is one of her top passions, and she has a hard time understanding that some people aren't into music as much. She has a couple friends that say, "I just listen to whatever's on the radio," and it drives her crazy.

I listed my all-time favorites above, but more recently I've been on an Alabama Shakes kick and before that, Jake Bugg, so those would be more like flavor-of-the-month selections.

I like Alabama Shakes... good stuff. Similar to what you are saying, I'll get on a kick where I might listen to a certain group for a week or more; just celebrating their entire body of work.

My top 2 bands of All Time humhhhhh....

The Tar Heel Marching Band
The USC Trojan Marching Band

Honorable Mention The Fighting Irish Marching Band

Before you jump me for being a smartass the OP didn't specify what type of band:D
