It’s that time of year again. Where are you guys going on vacation this year? My BIL and my SIL and my wife will be heading to Rome for a week and then take a train to the Tuscany area for another week. We will be leaving the first part of May. Also plan on our usual week at Ocracoke in the fall. Hope everybody gets to go wherever you want to go.

I'm heading to Chicago in June with my mom and sisters for a few days. We are going to see Hamilton and catch a Cubs game, probably do some touristy things like see the Bean, eat deep dish pizza, go by the MJ statue, things like that.

Coupla short sailing trips, including one to Ocracoke for the music festival. Visiting mom's family in Iowa. Annual gathering with our college pals and their families, not sure yet where that's going to happen. Seattle in August for Pearl Jam's "home shows" and probably a little hiking.

Italy/France/Switzerland in August/September.

We're going to try to go down to Key West this winter so I can knock out two more National Parks--Biscayne and Dry Tortugas--in my quest to visit as many as I can. I personally don't care about Key West itself, but my wife might enjoy that part of the trip.

Montreal over Memorial Day
Will probably do a July vacation (Bermuda again?)
Vegas over Labor Day
Napa/Sonoma in October.

We went to Bermuda for our honeymoon and it was in July. It was so hot/humid, I was miserable. Even the water temperature was pretty warm and didn't cool me off as much as I'd have liked. We love the island, but when we returned, I insisted on October. Sometime in late July or maybe early August, they have a huge cricket tournament that was going on while we were there.

Family reunion to attend in June (N. Raleigh) . . beach trip in September. (Topsail Isle)

This is always a 5 star thread.

~10 days in Scotland in early August with my mom and two brothers. That's the only trip I know of for sure.

I'll probably do some long weekend trips in the RV: Outer Banks, Nashville, Shenandoah, and some random boondocking are all on the wish list.

Oh, and UNC football tailgates.

Ya, I was down there the last weekend in July last year (it was the weekend before the Cricket Cup match). Definitely warmer than I would have liked, but not brutal. I agree that the spring/fall would be ideal temperature-wise, but I don't wanna risk hurricanes in the fall. I'd prefer somewhere I haven't been if possible, so still TBD on the summer trip I guess.

Just got back from 4 days are Streamsong. Doing a week at Nags Head in May, a week in Amelia Island in July, and a week in San Fran last week of August...I’ll also go see the Heels open up at Cal while there.

Me too. In addition to no money, I also have a job that requires me to work more than 3 weeks a year.
That's why I got out of banking

No major trips planned as of yet.

- Scottsdale in a few weeks
- will spend some time in Traverse City, MI
- visit NC a bit
- going to the A&M vs Clemson game in College Station
- probably spending a week in Charleston in the fall or maybe late summer
- possible, but unlikely, headed to Lisbon in Sept

We will spend a week at Tybee but with the kids this time. Won't be as fun but will still be great. Then we will spend a few days in Chattanooga at some point without the kids. Mainly just a lot of golf beyond that. You guys are a lot more exotic than I am.

  • Headed back to NC this Weekend for a wedding.
  • Going to Madrid, Spain for 10 days in June.
  • Already went to Bahamas on Disney Cruise in March
  • Off to Captiva Island, FL for Memorial Day
  • Will be in NC Mountains for Christmas at my folks second home in Mountain Air country club.

Do you sleep on your boat when you go to places like Ocracoke?

Sounds like us. We wanted to visit all of NC lighthouses and have done that, we also wanted to ride on all the NC ferries, we have one left, it is way up in the northern part of the coast close to the Virginia line. We hope to knock that one out this fall. I know list like that are stupid but they are fun, my next one will be to eat at all of the real wood burning bbq places in the state. Might not live long enough to knock that one out....lol

Might want to put that one at the top of the list. Those places are disappearing fast.

On this boat (dad's), yes.

My own new (very old) little boat isn't quite so suited for sailing to places and sleeping aboard, but for blasting around the creek/river for an hour or two she's ideal. Just launched and sailed for the first time on Sunday morning, it was awesome. Only takes a breath of wind to make her flat MOVE! Ear-to-ear grins for father and son - quality time at its best.
