Guys, let me first start by saying that I have no affiliation with the Rams Club beyond my annual donations (meaning I'm not like an employee of the Rams Club). With that being said, on behalf of the RC and of UNC athletics, I'd like to make a plea to all of y'all on here....

Please join the Rams Club if you're not already in it.

Guys, we all love Carolina athletics. It's what brought us all to this site in the first place. It's what we spend our weekends watching (and weekdays). We've grown up on it. Etc. etc. All the poetic things you want to insert here about our love for UNC and its athletics. I know that sometimes we like to think (and Wolfies like to think) that Carolina and the Rams Club is loaded, but y'all......the Rams Club is hurting for members and donations. To be completely honest, the UNC alumni participation in the Rams Club is beyond pathetic; BEYOND pathetic. I think I read somewhere that there's 300,000 or so living UNC alumni. That number I'm not 100% sure on, but this number I do know. As of me writing this, there are only 14,751 active Rams Club members.

Let me repeat that. 14,751 -- out of at ~300,000 living alumni. Guys, that's less than 5%. That's terrible. This is why I am making a personal plea to y'all to join the Rams Club. You don't have to give thousands and thousands a year. Just give what you can. The Rams Club is a great cause. You can go to ramsclub.com for yourself and read, but the RC 100% funds all UNC athletic scholarships so that the University doesn't have to do so. This means that the University can devote that money it would have to spend on athletic scholarships --$16,000,000 for this past academic year -- to any other item they see fit. This is no small sum, and the RC is having trouble footing the bill each year. This morning I received a letter from the RC kindly requesting me to pay my annual donation before June 30th, so they could use it to pay the aforementioned $16,000,000 bill to the University (donations can be made any time between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, they were just kindly requesting I pay early). The Rams Club desperately needs more members, especially in this time of skyrocketing college sports expenses.

I'm not trying to get sentimental really, but y'all already know the joy of watching guys like Marcus Paige and Ryan Switzer tear it up on the playing field. Now imagine how good it will make you feel to watch guys like that and then be able to tell yourself proudly, "My donations paid for part of Paige's scholarship."

That's my plea to y'all on here. We're a tight-knit group so I decided to post this on here and not on Blitz (lack of activity) or Radar (I'd be inundated with excuses why not to donate). At least take the time to consider it, even if you ultimately don't join. That's all I ask.

Go Heels!

Hear, hear!

I think I read somewhere that there's 300,000 or so living UNC alumni. That number I'm not 100% sure on....
The UNC General Alumni Association says their directory includes 290,000 alumni so you're close enough.

You can become a Rams Club member for as little as $100 a year, which secures the rights to three season tickets for football whether you exercise that right or not. I believe the rates for most giving levels are significantly reduced for recent graduates. Plus there are plenty of other perks and discounts at local businesses including restaurants, hotels, golfing, etc. around Chapel Hill.

I'm guessing THN doesn't itemize, but those who do should know that the Rams Club is a 501(c)3 so contributions are tax-deductible. (Since most giving levels allow you to receive the right to buy tickets to athletic events, current tax law allows 80% of the donor’s gift to be considered a charitable contribution.)

Think about it....

Thank you for doing the legwork and providing some links. I rushed through that post at the end. Yes, there is a 50% reduction for graduates for the first five years after you graduate. I don't think that would apply to anyone on this board except @heelz2345 though, and he may already be in it because I know @grillheel is in it.

I do not itemize, but I'll certainly take advantage of my RC contributions when I do start to itemize. And yes, please look into it guys. The benefits are fun (I'm not going to sit here and claim that they're overwhelmingly awesome, though) and it's for a great cause that we obviously all care about.

And revisiting the 14,751 number..........I know for a fact that that number includes a healthy chunk of folks who are not alumni and still are very generous donors. So, in reality, it's most likely less than the 4% of all living alumni who are donors.

Interesting. I just went to the website and found this...

Seriously though, If the minimum was lower I would probably join, but money is a little tight for me right now. My dad is a member and he contributes a decent amount, so hopefully I can get some credit for that.

Member standing/points are based on lifetime contributions and I'm pretty sure they're not transferrable. I really hurt myself by not contributing when I was younger and living out of the area, thinking why bother because I couldn't make it to games. Now that I'm back in NC, I've been playing catch up just to keep these 50% discounted noobs like @TarHeelNation11 from gaining ground on me.

(I'll have the last laugh next season when he finally has to pay full freight. Gonna be a lot of Ramen and Milwaukee's Best at the tailgates.)

Member points are not transferable. You can't hand them down to your children. They end when you end.

Oh please. I'd rather DD for every tailgate than drink Milwaukee's Best. I'll have the money saved up by then (my clothes just might not be new).

I never graduated...

I was decidedly less resolved at 19. I stopped drinking at 20. I think I should have waited 2 years to go. I sucked at Algebra, too.

We are past 15 April, so if we start giving now how will that affect position in the pecking order for 2016 season tickets and parking passes?

2016 Rams Club season tickets and parking passes have already been sold. However, you could still join the Rams Club now and then order from the pool of season tickets that are still on sale to the general public.

And, if you desired, you could donate a chunk this season to better your standing (the RC site has a nifty calculator where you can experiment with donating X amount and seeing it will move you to Y in the standings).

Then, in spring 2017, you can order season tickets through the Rams Club and you'll be able to select the exact location of your seats (based on your RC ranking) and you'll get to pick where you want your parking permit. Let me know if this helps. The minimum level you want to shoot for, IMO, is "Big Ram" level. It's $1200 per year and that gets you a free parking pass for all football games (my personal recommendation is the Bowles Lot) and the right to buy four season tickets, with you selecting the seat locations for all four up front.

I quit giving after mack brown was allowed to leave. Its time to re up. Tks for the motivation to do so!
That's a totally understandable reason to quit donating. That was a godawful decision and you had the foresight to see what a long-term detrimental decision it was going to be. Glad to hear you're considering re-upping.

Hmm. I need to ask the Rams Club for some freebies for my sales work lol.

Thanks for the gouge.

Yep, I'm VERY surprised by this news actually.

I don't know whether to throw up about this or grit my teeth and be happy about this, but it appears lots of Rams Club folks stopped giving due to 1). NCAA mess and 2). football lack of success, but have been encouraged because of vast improvements in both those areas and thus have opened up their checkbooks again. That's pretty petty, IMO, but I'm not gonna whine about people giving again now.

This season's football record is so crucial in winning this fanbase over and keeping them engaged. An 8-4 season would kill all the momentum that last year gained. Another 10-year season would really, really help. I know that's unfair to expect that since we haven't gone back-to-back 10-win seasons in forever, but it's the cold reality.
