A few of our stats ranked nationally:

FGM 7th
FGA 8th
2PM 6th
2PA 9th
ORB 5th
DRB 4th
TRB 1st
AST 4th
BLK 44th
PTS 11th
PPG 23rd

Very nice overall stats, I am dumbfounded that we're #1 in total rebounds. I was very worried about our rebounding coming in to the season, but it has been a team effort with our wing players contributing mightily to our totals. And we have several players who are capable, as well as willing, to drop the dime. Now for the bad part...

TOV 157th
PF 295th

Glaring opponents stats:
3PM 349th
3PA 346th
3P% 325th

Obviously, we must defend the three better, value the ball more, and defend without fouling as much. But overall, I am extremely pleased with our play to date. We have overachieved, considering all we lost.

Some other interesting stats:

Free Throw Shooting Percentages- Joel Berry II (.896), Cameron Johnson (.895) and Theo Pinson (.806). This is the first time three UNC starters are shooting 80 percent from the line since 2007-08, with Ty Lawson (.835), Wayne Ellington (.826) and Tyler Hansbrough (.806).

UNC has made 110 for 194 field goal attempts in the second half in the last six games – 56.7 percent with the high being 78.1 percent vs state last Saturday.

Carolina is third in the country in rebounding its own missed shots. The Tar Heels grab 38.7 percent of their own missed shots. Carolina has finished first, third and fifth in the country in offensive rebounding percentage in the previous three seasons.

The Tar Heels have played seven games against teams who are in the top 20 nationally in defensive efficiency. UNC is 4-3 in those games (wins over Tennessee, Ohio State, Clemson and Michigan; losses to Virginia, Michigan State and Clemson).

Luke Maye (18.3) and Joel Berry II (17.5) lead Carolina in scoring. The last time two Tar Heels averaged 17 points or more in the same season was 1983-84, when Michael Jordan (19.6) and Sam Perkins (17.6) were UNC’s top scoring duo.

I didn't realize that. It sure is nice to have clutch FT shooters in late game situations.

That's impressive.

That's what propelled us to BTB final games and is what is allowing us to be playing as well as we are this year, despite major attrition.

That's surprising too.

This goes to prove that Roy doesn't just sit on the side lines acting like a coach, he actually teaches and coaches his team. We've always been a top rebounding team but we've also always had multiple highly ranked big's playing at the same time. This year we don't! We are playing small ball with a 6'8 walk-on as our only big and we are still one of the best rebounding teams in the nation.

Same here. I would have said you were crazy (and posted about it over and over on THR :) if you told me that we'd be first in rebounding.

As you said though, the wings really help. Luke has his 10rpg which is great but Theo at 6, Cam at 4.7, and even Joel at 3.6 is huge.
