NBA pulls the 2017 All-Star Game out of Charlotte

Agree with NC for not caving here. This is a liberal scare tactic and nice to see a state not give in to the peer pressure. Why isn't the NBA "standing against" China? Aren't they one of the worst human rights offenders on the planet?

Dammit. The thread we had on this law was the worst thread ever. Now you've gone and started another. I hate you.

I started a new thread rather than bump that POS. Anybody who wants to argue about the law can revisit it any time. I'm simply pointing out the economic impact to the "I'll believe it when I see it" crowd.

It's stupid on both sides.

It doesn't matter what your intent was. Bottom line is you suck at life. Go back to Canada.

I wasn't referring to the law either. I am referring more to the fact that the NBA is throwing its weight around when it should stick to sports. Given the fact that there are a lot of human rights issues out there, they are simply playing the prisoner-of-the-moment role here, and I personally think that is wrong. The NFL does it for violence against women - great...much better cause than hurting a community financially over some stupid bathroom BS. They are ultimately hurting people - and a city - that largely agrees with them. I find that wrong. Stick to sports.

You know why. Estimated impact of at least $60 million, more likely over $100 million.

NC can just throw a big, made up NASCAR event and make that up pretty easily.

PGA Championship at Quail Hollow is on the clock.

I don't care about the NBA all star game but I would care about this, especially because I'll be able to score tickets to this pretty easily.

This is so stupid.

Didn't Charlotte get all this started?

The NBA sucks...Silverman is more about his political stance then he is about basketball! This law of allowing anybody into any restroom they want is already causing problems.....but the idiot wants to be politically correct and that is ALL that matters!

I wonder if since passing this law, have there been any problems from it as we suspected, like men who are now living as women using the men's room and having problems or women who now live as men using the ladies room and causing problems with others being afraid?

I know it is probably too soon for any of it but I wonder. I figure people will continue doing as they were, especially if it is not very obvious that they are not the gender they appear as and just ignore the law.

The NBA All Star Game is supposed to be for the fans. What do the fans in Charlotte have to do with any of this? Absolutely nothing, so why punish them because you don't happen to agree with some law in NC? Stay out of politics and play a damn game, for chrissake. The whole thing is just dumb.

Oh, and to top all of this off, where is the NBA thinking about moving this to? New Orleans. We've seen that one before...low blow, NBA, low blow.

But the NBA is not rigged at all. I mean, it's a complete coincidence they wound up with Anthony Davis after Charlotte had the worst record in NBA history.

This is all about money, obviously. The NBA likes to throw its weight around on social issues because it thinks it'll boost it's ratings/profits if they appeal to the majority on an issue (and they're probably right in that regard). If 80% of the country was in favor of this bill, they would have never even considered pulling the all star game from Charlotte. Even if the bill was opposed by 80% of the county (which maybe it is, who knows) but they would have gone from making 100mil in Charlotte to 50mil anywhere else... they would have never considered moving it (unless they figured that the good graces built by doing so would make up that 50mil shortfall).

The NBA is banking on not losing fans that disagree with their stances, at least not enough to move the needle, but maybe gaining a few casual fans from the people who agree with their stances. If they got enough of a blowback (in terms of actual money lost... not just people getting pissed off on twitter) as a result of their left leaning social stances, they would absolutely stop.... I guarantee it.

Glad you asked, this from Georgia.

This from Target in Idaho, just last week:

I saw on a N.C. travel forum on TripAdvisor that all the rooms downtown were booked solid weeks ago.

I knew about those. I meant in NC since they were the one that got this started.

Why does it matter what state it happened in? The point is, that it happens, which is what the bill was trying to prevent.

I figure people will continue doing as they were, especially if it is not very obvious that they are not the gender they appear as and just ignore the law.

I hope they do. The people that "it is not very obvious that they are not the gender they appear" aren't the type of people that this was meant to obstruct, as they most likely have a lower probability of trying to do something "obscene". This was meant to obstruct people who just claim to be one gender to take advantage of the situation, so they can do something "obscene". But you already knew that... or at least you should have considering that's been stated 1000 times on this board already.
