Need Help Comparing UNC Players to NBA Pros

I'm doing something and need some help comparing the following former Tar Heels when they were in college to a current player (or player from the 80s or 90s). I don't really watch the NBA as much as I did in the 80s and 90s; also, please no smart a$$ responses as this is something serious I'm trying to do. Simply respond if you can or will with the name of a current player who resembles the play of the former Tar Heel while that UNC player was in college (ie Ty Lawson was elite while in college but not so much now, so you would compare him with a current player or player from the 80s or 90s that his game resembled while at Chapel Hill.

Thanks for any and all help:

Kendall Marshall
Reggie Bullock
Harrison Barnes
John Henson
Tyler Zeller

Ty Lawson
Wayne Ellington
Danny Green
Tyler Hansbrough
Deon Thompson

Brandan Wright
Ed Davis

Ty Lawson averaged 16 and 9 this year, 3rd in the nba in assists. Hes elite. When he becomes a free agent he will be very sought after

It's my fault for expecting this not to happen, because this is exactly what I should have seen coming.

Ty Lawson was considered by many to be the best point guard his junior year; he's not considered by many to be the best point guard this year. I believe Ty Lawson was voted conference player of the year his junior season; I do not believe he will be voted (western) conference player of the year this season.

I'm not concerned with his stock as a free agent--I'm concerned with what I'm asking for in the first post. This is not some sort of debate. If you can't contribute to what I'm asking for help with, then just don't contribute at all--it's that simple. I know Lawson is good, but that's not what I'm focusing on here. And if someone still doesn't get it, just read the original post and the second paragraph of this post.

Guys--I'm trying to create something on my own here and apparently a couple of you just don't get it. If you can't contribute, just don't post.

I think the posters who have replied may not get it: this is not a debate, this is not to say who's better, this is not supposed to be some ongoing "topic", etc: I just politely asked for help in determining something from the original post.

I make no apologies that this isn't another thread talking about Duke, referees, how the NCAA is out to get UNC, or Coach Cal. If those are "smart" topics, then go reply to those. If someone asks for help on a thread, either help or don't post--that's all.

At least that's better than before.

If you don't think anyone can help, go ahead and lock it. It's similar to people posting that "JP is similar to Vince Carter; athletic, but better at defense and lesser at offense" when JP was coming to UNC (and yes, people were posting that). That's all I am/was looking for, but again, go ahead and lock it if no one can help. No big deal.

Thanks.

I have no idea, and again, that's not related to the request for help to which I originally asked.

It's easy for me to not only respectfully respond to you, but also to address your question; I have no problem with that because I don't want to assume you're trying to get something started (I look for the good in people and take their intentions as good as well). I don't want to assume anything, but funny how we mention the respectfulness of Dean Smith, yet some people don't show it themselves. Again to answer your question, I have no idea; you may want to visit their athletic website, ask over on that message board, or pick up one of those preseason magazines that come out before football season. Hope that helps.

Seems like I'm getting no where with this request (and that's okay), but if it remains unlocked, I will remain respectful with my replies. Thanks guys.

One more thing...

If it helps, something like this:

Kendall Marshall: Jason Kidd, or Wayne Ellington: Klay Thompson. The Ellington one is a bad example, and that's why I'm requesting help (I just can't think of a sharpshooting NBA 2-guard right now who doesn't score a whole lot--maybe like 15ppg-- but can consistently knock down jumpers like Ellington did). However you should catch my drift with the Butter comparison to Kidd.

Thanks.

Butter-Kidd not a good one at all. Kidd had quicks. Butter's vision is a HUGE plus but his slowness on D is killing him.

Yeah, that was just an example Mike lol. But thanks for the input; that's what I'm looking for.

This is tough because no one is just like someone else, and even when making someone "comparable", which I'm asking for, people will disagree.

I asked on another site (OS--they don't seem to be as negative as some), and I got things like this:
Kendall Marshall: John Stockton
Ty Lawson: Tim Hardaway
Tyler Hansbrough: Karl Malone

Of course these aren't perfect, but at least they're suggestions; as if to say of course Psycho T isn't as good as Hall of Famer Karl Malone, but he dominated the inside and went to the line a lot in college like Malone did in the pros.

But thanks Mike; even though I was just giving an example for what to do (and not what I believed), your reply was VERY welcomed. Thanks again.

One suggestion that I got over there was Danny Green: Paul Pierce; I don't know about that one, but like I said, they're trying to help.

It's always tuff trying to compare one player to another. Each one does some things better than the other.

One we can all agree on...........................................NOBODY compares to The GOAT!

I gathered the information I was requesting from another site and finished what I was working on originally. If you are not interested, which a lot of you may not be, then you just aren't interested; for those of you who are--and I know that a lot of people in the gaming community are because they have downloaded my work--then I can provide pictures and a link to the file.

Some of you know that college basketball video games are not made anymore--NCAA Basketball 10 was the last one, and because of the "Ed O'Bannon" ruling, college games in general will probably not get made anymore (unless the athletes get paid for their likeness). However I made a college hoops file for NBA 2K14 using a modding tool, and as I previously mentioned, many people have downloaded the file and commented on it. Also as I mentioned, I have the file as well as a couple of screenshots on a jumpdrive; if I knew how to post the pictures here I would because I must say it's good work. What I needed help with was for rating the players; for instance, Butter was a stud in college, but his default rating(s) reflected his performance in the NBA which wasn't high at all, and this is a college file--not an NBA one. If this isn't your thing but you or your child has a PS3, give it a look.

Like I stated, I took the high road with negative posters like TarHeelNation11, and I've done it a lot on this board. I wanted to get this off my chest and perhaps get the egg off your faces. I created 10 college teams, but the one I did first, last, and cared more about was my favorite team: the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. I am a Tar Heel fan through and through, and just because I don't wear Tar Heel blue lenses 24/7, that doesn't make me any less of a Heel fan than you TarHeelNation11 or any one else on this board. Yeah I have an autographed basketball from Roy Williams, the championship game dvds, the authentic on-field baseball caps, the Greg Little replica football shirt, etc; I got all that stuff, but that's not what makes me a Tar Heel fan...

...What makes me a Tar Heel fan is the fact that I bleed UNC blue; it's not about what I have, but what I feel: the chills I get when I think about 8 points in 16 seconds; the way I still shake my head when I see Stackhouse throw down the reverse dunk at Cameron Indoor Stadium; the way I sat in silence as if I was in the dugout when we lost to Oregon State. You guys don't know how pompous you come off when you accuse me, SJung, or whoever else it may be of not being a Tar Heel fan, or fans of other teams. Go and look at the multiple--MULTIPLE--threads on the football board in the past about South Carolina, and look how many times--I should say the few times--I posted a comment: not a lot. I said I wanted to play them and beat them because it is a border war, and that makes me a Gamecock fan (yeah, okay). There have been many threads about the SEC as well, but again, look how many times I posted on those--maybe 1%, or even less than that. But go ahead and look if you can; that is, if you're not afraid of being wrong.

I know how some of you guys are, but if I think someone is a fan of another team, I'm not going to disrespect him, bait him, troll his thread(s), etc--I'm going to treat him like a human being. So what if a...I don't know...Wolpack fan, asks me about UNC players or something; jeez, treat the guy with respect. THIS is the very reason we are looked at as holier-than-though because some of us act like that. Some of you still won't get it and act like I'm mad or something, but if you do want to go stalker-mode and look at my past posts, I'm a very positive guy. I made a roster for the gaming community and I don't care if a Gamecock football fan, Duke cheerleader, or an NC State cafeteria lady comments on it because I don't assume someone who isn't a Tar Heel fan has bad intentions, and if that makes me the minority, all the better.

But anyway

, the roster is pretty darn good and as accurate as you can get it; it has been online on 2KShare if the servers are still up and running.

Hey--I get it where I fit in Mike!

But seriously, I did want to say I have respect for you. I know that was a long rant, but I had to say it; but I also have to say you do your job as a mod well. I don't post on here like I used to, but if you remember, you've stepped in as the reasonable voice on a number of occasions. If I wasn't hanging with Dave, I'd be hanging with you.

I really would like to post the pics from my jumpdrive but I don't know how; even if you're not a gamer, it's still cool to see the 2009 team and the 2012 team represented in the virtual world.

Thanks Mike.
