Just read a article that Bacot and Deja Kelly and several other athletes have signed with Crocs. I fully believe getting all of these deals will pretty much guarantee a 5th year of basketball 🏀 at UNC for the big man.

That coupled with his lack of improvement in the other areas of his game to make him more attractive for NBA GM's makes it a distinct possibility.

I am sure Amanda knows he probably will not be a draft pic no matter what year, but there are so many ways to get paid playing basketball these days it is ridiculous. Staying at UNC is definitely a way to get paid

I hope that was a typo in reference to Mando (if not, it is despicable!), but the rest of the post is spot on! I understand peeps ambivalence about Caleb because it is easy to see his potential and he often seems to fall short of it. He does seem like he loves the Heels though and that is good enough for me!

he loves the Heels .... but unfortunately that comes after he loves Caleb.

Does anybody have a sense of how much Armando would make staying here vs playing on a decent overseas squad?

I'm thinking if the difference isn't rather large, why leave? Why have to move, maybe have to learn a new language, give up the coeds, get beaten up in more games, etc., etc., if you aren't going to do a lot better?

He's making over a million on NIL this year.

In the G-League, which is where he would be be next year if he intends to chase his NBA dream, he would get a $50,000 nonguaranteed contract.

Overseas he would make in the low 6 figures depending on the country and the contract.

If he got a 2-way NBA contract (unlikely based on his current draft stock) he would make around $500,000.

Returning to UNC for another year of NIL is far and away the smartest financial decision he could make. Especially since he's driving around in a $100,000 vehicle these days.

Thanks. So I guess the obvious question is are there any good reasons NOT to come back?

He'd probably like to play in the NBA, so if he could be sure of a contract, that might outweigh NIL. Anything else?

It has been mentioned that NIL need not end just because players leave school. If so, would there be conflicts of interest if he went to the NBA. Could he get paid there and also continue NIL?

Caleb would certainly be kept on if he decides to.
It's hard to imagine chasing off a starter.

OTOH, I wonder if Caleb might be asking himself whether some other coach could do a better job helping him to the NBA?

I mean he either still thinks he's that good, or he has lowered his expectations for himself. If he still thinks he's that good, how does he explain to himself why he isn't 1st round draft material yet?

I think his legit potential to get in the league is why he would go, and fully commit 100% of his time to improving in the G -League with that coaching/game. I doubt if he decided to stay in college he would go elsewhere though.

He has real nice NIL earnings going on currently already here as well. I fully think he still thinks he can make the league though, and time to play with the big boys if so and hone that game then full time G - league. I don't think Mando sees much hope.

Most, if not all, of his NIL ends when he turns pro.

OK. It sounds like Armando should return while Caleb should play in the G-League.

Aren't the slots for the G-League limited? Could Caleb be sure of getting one?

What if the G-League doesn't want him? What should he do in that case?

I've been assuming that Wilcher would become a starter fairly quickly but with some of Caleb's minutes going to Dunn, and with Trimble also getting more PT. But I notice that Wilcher has been slipping in the rankings. Still, I think our back court should be pretty solid next year.

Limited ? How ? As a drafted 2nd round possession you mean ? Teams quickly sign non drafted interests as soon as the draft concludes. Those players have more freedom to choose then a drafted 2nd rounder, if that's what you mean. I do think Caleb would rather be undrafted then 2nd round. His G- league options are assured.

People, Caleb still made the mid season Wooden Award, Oscar Robertson Award , etc. watch list. Hell, RJ would get a G - League signing and he is not even on NBA radars. It's Caleb's choice. Noone is pushing him out for the others as a preference. Just not the scenario.

I thought I read that there were typically only a few positions open per team and some could go to guys already in the pros, so just wanting to go to the G-League wouldn't necessarily mean those clubs would make room for a player. Then again the last time I read anything on this was several years ago, so I could be wrong.
