It seems like he has a very slow shot set up. I'm the first to recognize that I don't know a ton about shot mechanics but, what do you guys think?

Any shot Doctors out there that can answer this?....

DAY 4 at Peach Jam

----Drake Powell had an 18pt/18rb/4asst showstopper in the win over Elliott Cadeau's old squad NY Lightning. That's not a misprint

----2024 target Boogie Fland has been pretty quiet this week. He has not shot well at all.

-----UNC legacy Jahseem Felton has been anything but quiet. He's trying to prove a point and playing with a chip on his shoulder.

I agree he takes his time with the shot. It is clear, he is working on his shot mechanics a lot in practice! He sets up well and seems ready on the catch, but he starts it a little low, legs are slightly wide, has a little too much wind up and lets the follow through fly a little off target. These are minor corrections he will have no trouble fixing if he wants it! But, you can't argue with his success at 3 so far! He has the confidence and the necessary work ethic to become a real problem at all 3 levels! This kid is a game changer and Hubs once again proves he is a prime level recruiter/evaluator!

DAY 5 at Peach Jam

----2026 stars Tyran Stokes and AJ Dybantsa went to head and the Vegas Elite team led by Stokes came out on top.
Tyran - 16pts/7rbs/7asst/5stls
AJ - 20pts/3rbs/4asst

----Drake Powell and TEAM CP3 lost in the Elite 8 today. 9pts/7rbs for the Tar Heel.

DAY 6 at Peach Jam

Championship Round:

---James Brown and MOKAN Elite won this morning. JB only scored 8pts/4rbs/1blk but he defended at a high level and once again showed the ability to move away from the paint and be effective. On one possession he caught the ball at the 3 point line on the wing. He put the ball on the floor, drove by his defender, crossed over the guy who came to help and finish easily at the rim. This kid will be a player by the middle of his 2nd year on the Hill.

----Boogie Fland had his best game this week in the loss to a strong Vegas Elite team(Tyran Stokes). Boogie finished with 17pts/4rbs/2stls/3 3's.
Stokes did his usual on both ends with 8pts/4rbs/4asst/2stls.

----In the Bronze Division bracket 2025 star Caleb Wilson had a bigtime mid-day game. 22pts/12rbs/10asst/3blks/2stls/2 3's. Hopefully HD and staff can get this kid, he really is a player.

----Wilson's GA Stars teammate Jahseem Felton had another good game. 15pts/7asst/3rbs. The Tar Heel legacy has been one of the Top 10 guys in North Augusta this week.

Side Note:
James Brown and teammates plays the Semis later today.

Peach Jam final results.

---Tar Heel James Brown and MOKAN went down in the Semi-Finals last night. The big guy once again showed an all around inside/outside game. He also did a pretty good job defending 5-star recruit Patrick Ngongba.

----After getting a triple-double earlier in the day 2025 stud Caleb Wilson put on another showcase last night with 18pts/18rbs/7asst. He didn't have a great night shooting but got to the FT line 15 times with his ability to put the ball on the floor at 6'9".
---Jahseem Felton 24pts/4asst/3stls.

What I see in his jump shooting is a kid that the game seems to have slowed down for, that is actually a very good thing. For Drake this has not always been the case, when we first offered this kid I was not as high on him as others seemed to be for 2 very specific reasons. I felt he really needed to improve his body, really needed to get stronger physically. But from his Jr season to his senior season his physical improvement really seemed to jump out to me. That may well have led to strong improvement in the second concern I had that being it looked like he was rushing himself, needed to slow down just a bit, like the game was just a little bit to fast for him. I think what you are seeing is the result of the game slowing down for him, in his head, translated to his shooting. I didn't love his jump shooting prior to what he showed as a senior and I don't know that I would call it even now the strength of his game but it is far from the weak point of his game as it was prior to last season, my opinion of course.

He is not Brady Manek, Brady had that hair trigger where he could get off a really quick shot over a defender where he seemed to be well guarded. But Brady had the knack of being able to do so much of his shot prep before the catch, to already know which triple threat he was going to prior to the catch, that is a unique ability that few have and the confidence to trust his shot. Drake's shot is more like Ingram's in that is is a bit more deliberate so that places more of a premium on his shot selection and frankly, we should all want a kid that does take better shots, love that about Ingram in that he does seem to take clean shots over contested ones so he can take a split second more time getting it off rather than sacrifice accuracy. To see the other side of that coin consider Puff, who was constantly rushing his shots and really needed to slow down and take a good shot or pass it up if it was not there.

My remaining concern about Drake is that it did take a while for him to see the high school level game slow down in his head because the college game is much faster than the the high school game is, can he take that confidence with him and not allow things to speed him up or does it take multiple seasons for him to see the college game slow down in his head. That is a developmental question but considering how he really improved this aspect from his jr season to last season he seems to understand it such that he realizes his game is not at it's best when he rushes and may may well carry over to college more so than for those guys that are mega confident all thru high school that discover they have to take a confidence hit when they get to college.

I have
Drake impressing NBA scouts on both ends of the floor
I have made the comp comparison for Drake Powell as Victor Olidipo. Victor and Drake were both defense oriented raw offensive athletes.
Victor had his breakout and development happen after he got to College and his game exploded.
Drake seems to be in the process of taking that step ALREADY! With another year of HS to go.
Gotta love the future with both Drake and Capt Jack in the fold for next season.

That would be a great level. Olidipo was a beast.

Maybe.

Doesn't change the fact you were 100% wrong to claim they are carbon copies of each other.
We shall see. 6-4 or 6-5, bouncy, 3pt shooting is ehhhh....Defense is good. Right now they are just quicker than their opponents. They play the same position. They are the same to me until they get on campus and the coaching staff determines their role.

Just because they’re the same height doesn’t mean they’re the same… isn’t Jackson more of a combo/secondary ball handler with great athleticism, whilst Powell is a slasher/shooter/power player?
