Taking on 7A Georgia offenses with North Gwinnett, 2023 outside backer Grant Godfrey showed he could do it all during the 2021 season. Playing on the line, back in the box or dropping into coverage, the four-star prospect showcased the evolving skills producing 68 stops with 10 tackles for a loss, six sacks, five QB hurries and a pick through 12 games. The top-level action has produced 12 scholarship offers thus far with interest rolling in from more heavy hitters.
The bulk of the recruiting action for Godfrey has come from ACC and SEC programs. Offers have been extended from Georgia Tech, Louisville, Virginia and Wake Forest on the ACC side and Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee and Vanderbilt on the SEC side. Those offers may gain company in the coming weeks.
“Auburn is showing a lot of interest right now,” Godfrey said. “I have talked to them a lot recently. Nebraska, Kansas State, LSU and Georgia have also been showing interest.”
Godfrey continued, “Auburn is in regular contact, and I am in contact every day with Tennessee. Vanderbilt is in contact every two days or so along with North Carolina. Coach Jay Bateman (UNC, DC), he visited me at school before the break. They are very interested and want to keep talking. Clemson is another. I have a lot of contact from Mississippi State coaches also.”
Messaging from various college teams is making an impact with Godfrey.
“Tennessee is definitely making an impact,” Godfrey stated. “They are talking to me a lot. I have an invite to their Junior Days. Vanderbilt and North Carolina are making an impact as well.”
There are two visits Godfrey wants to take in the coming days, “Tennessee is one, but I am not sure when. But I will definitely visit there. Clemson is another. That’s all I have for right now.”
