A van down by the river
Apparently an agreement has been struck that Charlotte will repeal its ordinance providing transgender protections if the NC General Assembly will repeal HB2 in full. The "in full" part is notable since the portions of the bill not related to bathrooms were arguably the more frightening portions.

I'm glad a compromise has been reached, but this is so stupid. Are you telling me all we had to do was have Charlotte repeal its ordinance all along? If so, I offer an apology to all the people I laughed at for suggesting this was Charlotte's fault.

The political posturing on both sides has been completely asinine. It has cost the state millions (billions?) of dollars and hurt working people. So much for our elected representatives doing what's best for their constituencies. Nowhere is their disconnect from reality more evident than this statement issued from McCrory's office today: "This sudden reversal with little notice after the gubernatorial election sadly proves this entire issue originated by the political left was all about politics and winning the governor’s race."

Uh, Pat? You could've vetoed the legislation. It would have been overridden by the Republican supermajority, but you could've vetoed it. That way you wouldn't have looked like a spineless asshole and maybe could've hung onto your position. Don't be out here blaming other people for your poor choices.

So I can start back taking a dump in the women's room again?

That's what I am telling you.

And kudos to McCrory for taking a stand that lost him the election but was the right thing to do.

Right thing to do? It was a stupid thing for him to get into and cost the state millions. He was pandering to people, well people like you. There was never a problem with people using the bathrooms here. That's the difference between conservatives and people like you who voted in Trump. We think the government should stay out of our lives. We believe in small government that protects us and lets us live our lives.

We can argue right and wrong all day, but McCrory most certainly wasn't about taking stands. He spent most of his term cowering to the GA.

Which is what I want an executive office to do, be it POTUS or Gov. The Congress/GA/Parliament is more of a democratic voice than is the Exec.

You have no idea what you are talking about, which is not surprising given how well you wager.

For starters, I always thought the bathroom portion of the law was stupid. The issue was that Charlotte wanted city law to supersede state law. That should not happen and McCrory did what the GA also did, which was refute that position. And in the end, Charlotte agreed.

I can't help it if you get emotionally suckered into thinking a law is good or bad. The whole bathroom thing was a play by the liberals to try to corner McCrory. That worked. And the GA refuting a now admitted bad piece of legislation by City of Charlotte is going to cost the libs big time. Cooper is a lame duck before he has even started.

I was one of the ones screaming, "Blame Charlotte!", because, well, it was Charlotte that got all this rolling. HB2 would have never existed without Charlotte's city council shoving it in the legislature's face. And to be honest the monetary effect on NC because of HB2 has been negligible when compared to the state's annual haul. The hit came from all the bad publicity it generated and the fact I tossed my Springsteen collection, even the "Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ" album I had since I was about 14.

Shadowy Democratic operatives with prescient abilities, eh?

I don't think there is anything shadowy about the LGBT lobby. And anyone could see how that one was going to go once they got Charlotte on board

So I can start back taking a dump in the women's room again?

Somewhat related story from my escapades in Vegas. One of the guys I went out there with got up from the sportsbook cuz he had to take a dump. He was texting on his phone and the casino we were in had a somewhat confusing bathroom set up, where there was a big entrance to the bathrooms, and on the left was Men's and to the right was Women's, but honestly if you didn't check closely you'd think they were both entrances to the same bathroom that just connected.

Anyways - as you can guess, he went into the women's room (I'm assuming there was no one in there when he got in there and somehow he didn't notice that there weren't urinals). And while taking the shit a group of people came in and he heard they were womens voices and realized what he had gotten himself into. He tried waiting it out in the stall for awhile until there was no one in there, but it never died down so eventually he just bit the bullet and walked out. Apparently he got grilled pretty good by a few of the women that saw him as he left.

I cringed reading that. That is absolutely something stupid I'd get myself in to. I'm the king of doing dumb, embarrassing stuff.

That's when you just fake speaking German or a language that people there probably don't know, and just walk out.

I had a similar incident one time. It was shortly after the new movie theater in my town was built, and on one side of the theater the women's restroom is on the right and the men's is on the left and on the other side, it's switched. So I turn out of the theater after my movie and enter the restroom that I thought was the men's, but was actually the woman's restroom. I look, realize there are no urinals and come to that realization that I've made a mistake. Just then, I hear a flush, and I booked it out of there about as fast as I've ever moved. Luckily my mistake went without detection, but every time I've been to that theater since I triple check the door just to make sure.

You answered the question.

No, I didn't.

Are you calling someone or something stupid? And if so, please elaborate as to the person or thing.

In other words, say what's on your mind and quit being a passive-aggressive. This is not a board for passive-aggressive types.

I'm not sure why prlyles chose to post the quote. I didn't feel like it was directed at anyone in particular on this board.

But, the quote is pretty self-explanatory isn't it? It makes perfect sense to me.
