It never was. That game we were only like a 5 or 6 point favorite. It was true road game. I am glad Roy plays games against quality mid majors especially true road games. Will prepare this group better for the NCAA tourney.
Space is correct, it never was a bad loss. It was a road game against a very solid program and we were without our best player. Texas will be a NCAA team as well. Do you think Knight LIte would have the cajones to schedule those two games on the road? I think not.
Hell would have to freeze over a thousand times before Vader ever had the nuts to schedule two true road games like that.. .he has stacked the deck now for thirty years and will do so as long as he is the leader of the cult there in Derrm.
Nope. K isn't playing a true road game ever before New Years. Neither of this current teams losses are bad. I would still like to see better consistency stopping dribble penetration on defense. Roy's teams don't need to be top 10 in defense but top 30-40 for sure to win it all. But this team is a better long range shooting team then any team Roy has had since 2009. If Johnson can keep up his play of late and be the go to interior scoring rock this team needs they have a great shot at a great season.
That's why sometimes people need to be rationale after a loss and look at the big picture.. We went to their gym, without our best all-around player, when you know their players were amped up to play their best game and lost by 4!!!
I agree that we need to do a better job of stopping dribble penetration, no doubt. But I love Coach mixing up the defense recently. We have the length to be very disruptive, force TO's, and crank up our fast break. I look for us to be a very sound defensive team by mid season. We're pretty decent right now.
After the loss to Texas Jay Williams on ESPN gave props to UNC for going on the road for a tough game. He kind of called out Duke for not doing it.

Coach has always been willing to go on the road, one of his admirable traits. It means losses from time to time but I love it. No doubt! Makes our loss easier to take. It appears that UNI is a good team again this year?

Here is my thing, I know it is not popular because we enjoy kicking at the dukies over it but I really do not take issue with k not wanting to take on tuff road games early. Clearly, K's way of doing it works for his program, he racks up easy cup cake wins by large margins and when he does get a tuffer opponent he gets them at a venue to his liking, he lessens his teams chance of taking a bad loss. What has his payoff been, well his teams get great seeding come tourney time and his teams gain confidence beating up on lesser opponents, it works for him. That is his job, to put his teams in the best position he can that increases their opportunity to win.

We can say that his teams are not road tested and that ours are come tourney time but truth is they ain't done all that bad...UNFORTUNATELY !
