The Auggie Doggies were in way over their heads, got it, maybe shouldn't draw much conclusion when the opponent is so over matched, got it. So what do you do when you face a team that is so over matched, you crush them, you don't play with your food. That first half was a heck of an example of how to crush a over matched team, got to the point I felt sorry for the Auggies actually...
Absolutely LOVED the offense pushing the ball keeping the tempo hot, loved the clean looks we were getting, the really good shots, the desire to pass off a good shot for a great shot. Loved that we powered it all by Hubert going strong to his bench and that bench kept on producing, even Lebo got in on it!
Think I will first speak about the concerns from this game and frankly, there are not many! I did feel both Jalen and High struggled a little bit catching the ball cleanly at times, especially Jalen. Felt Jalen had a rough patch near the end of the first half but played much stronger in the second. Ryan went down late first half, sounds like a ankle tweek and could have played had it been a more competitive game, he was certainly a positive influence in that first half. Hate that neither Withers nor Seth were available for this one. Seth tweeked his ankle again after initially tweeking it prior to the Blue/White game, should be back full go next week, Withers has a upper body strain and should as well be ready to go next week.
The good was well, REALLY GOOD! You saw the game, could go all War & Peace on the good in this game but will try to limit it for this. 3 plays that maybe all 3 should have been on ESPN's top plays of the day. Jalen's drive from the corner for a poster dunk was real nice and on most games that would be play of the game. BUT...but Cadeau, well you saw the first one, complete ankle breaker cross over to finish with the dunk and the and 1 and his defender was left sitting on his arse! But then he follows that up with the drive from well past 3pt area, just drove basically past the entire Auggie team for the flush? Have to mention RJ early scoring eruption, he looks much better, seems more free now that he has different back court mates. Ingram, just really nice and steady, good to see him jump shooting so well, he took high efficiency shots, clean open looks no matter where the shot came from. For the game I recall 2 shots total that I didn't love, just 2. RJ took and made a trey where he was off balance and floating off a touch and of course I didn't love the Bacot trey. But the rest was just great shooting decisions with the right guys taking the shots.
Really can't finish without talking about the play of both High and Konkwo, both played with high energy and bring a shot blocking element, need to see a box score but seemed like 5 to 7 blocks between the 2? High first college game and has a double double! Yeah, just and exhibition game vs a way over matched opponent but we did what we had to do, we crushed it! Hope the guys we now have offers out to were able to catch this game, that was a style of play I think they will find VERY appealing!
