Looking at you @gteeitup

Anyone got any suggestions around Southern Shores- I guess the range would be from Duck to Kitty Hawk. Any type recommendation- greasy spoon for breakfast, bar, date night- whatever you got. Heading up this eve for a 4 day weekend.

It's September so I'm thinking odds are better.

I haven't been to the Outer Banks since 1999. Wonder how much it will have changed.
All I know is my dad used to cut school in Sampson County and drive to OBX and surf / camp on the beach (he used to be a Dead Head hippie surfer bro.....lol) all the time.

...But now he won't even go back because of the yankee influx. Plus, it's just a long damn way from Georgia.

Just got back from Ocracoke a few days ago. If I was going to buy a second home (which I'm not) it would be at Ocracoke. God, I love that place.

Kill Devil Grill, Sam & Ommies, Black Pelican, Henry's...there are literally dozens of great places to eat along the banks.

Thai Room

On Ocean Blvd at MP 8.5 or so. That place is amazing... We stay away from the "touristy" type places b/c the food usually is a letdown and overpriced (in my opinion, FWIW).

duck donuts for breakfast
blue moon beach grill
salt box
roosters kitchen
kill devil grill(if you can get in)
mama kwans
rundown cafe
arts place(might be the best burger i've ever had)

Kill Devil Grill is some of the best food I've ever eaten any where.

agree...i just hate waiting there and their seating is similar to a diner, very limited...wouldn't guess it wouldn't be too bad in september.

If I were you, I wouldn't limit yourself so geographically, lots of great eats just a little further south:
Tortuga's Lie (Nags Head)
Black Pelican (Kitty Hawk)
Tale of the Whale (Nags Head, but you need to check if they are actually open after Labor Day, not sure...)
Kelly's (Nags Head)
North Banks Restaurant (Carolla)

Just rolled over the last bridge and straight to Kill Devil Grill for appetizer and drinks. Looks promising.

Holy Hell @TarHeelNation11 you are 100% correct. This place has more freaking Yankees than New Jersey or Ohio. I'm about to punch someone in the donut shop.
LOL. My brother is dating a girl from Jersey (I know I know) that he met while at Alabama -- and she's like a rich New Jersey girl, not Jersey Shore trash. I asked her straightup "Okay....why do y'all northerners love the Outer Banks so much?" And she just laughed and said OBX is like the end-all, be-all of beach destinations for NJ/NY peeps. I guess because it's fairly close and seems exotic...?? Ugh.

@UNC71-00 duck donuts by chance?

there's also a spot about 20 yards from duck donuts called the salad bowl if you like wraps with fresh ingredients...they'll make it right in front of you & you can pick your ingredients.

Yes, per your recommendation. And they were phonomenal, but I think they use ex-lax in their chocolate icing. I just blew the freaking toilet off the screws.

Think I read somewhere where Duck Donuts was opening a location in the Triangle but i can't remember where specifically.

Cary. Apparently they like serving yankees.
Cary.........................just ugh. I cannot think of a more boring, dull, lacking-in-any-type-of-personality, yankee haven.

At least in Georgia, heavily yankee-influxed areas like Marietta and Kennesaw have still strongly held on to their Southern identity and heritage (y'all can have Roswell and Alpharetta though. God Fulton County sucks). Cary is just like one big Costco. Cookie-cutter to the max.

Okay, rant over.

Duck Donuts are awesome . . they've opened 4 locations here in NoVA in the past year. Somebody has themselves a gold mine in this specialty . .

Last time I was in one, there was a 30 minute wait to get your donuts in the Herndon, Va. shop on an early Sunday morning . .

Just sat down at Art's. Very impressed already. Gonna knock out the Western Burger. I'm really looking forward to this.

Went to Watermans Bar and Grill in Rodanthe today for lunch. High recommendation from me if you find yourself down that way.

Excellent call also on Mama Kwans. Rolled up in here for an early dinner and packed with locals. Fish Tacos, Jerk Chicken Tacos and Queso Cheese Sticks all top notch.
