Broadbrushing here but media - and especially old has been's like DV are lazy hacks. It's just easy to hear what was said at the beginning of the season, or pick up something someone else wrote or said during the season.... and just repeat, beat it to a bloody death.
It takes hard work to pick out that there may be better players right now even on LSU than Simmons.....and who wants to hear that? It goes against what has already been mushed into their heads.
Its just like right now for the Heels, ALL you are going to hear about nationally are Brice and Marcus. They've earned it, but a lot of it for these two is based on what I said above about laziness. If media would watch the games, look at the box scores, instead of just perpetuating the preset narrative..... they would make the case for Joel Berry being the best / most important guy on our team right now. I'd venture to guess that 70%+ of the lazy media don't even know who maybe the best player on the #1 team in the nation right now, is.
Are you saying Buddy Hield isn't the best player on the number one team? Or did I misread that?
Will they move to #1 in the coaches? Is a narrow win at unranked LSU in a game they probably should have lost had LSU not blown it, seen as better than a 27 point win at home against an ACC cellar dweller? I think anything is possible. OU could be #1 in both, or UNC could be #1 in both, or they could split again next week.
No - I'm saying that Berry might be the best player RIGHT NOW on the Heels, who I consider to be #1.

That was a good game.... or at least the last 5 minutes that I saw. Simmons, for all the hype, may as well not have been on the court the last five minutes. Practically invisible. Weird, if he's a POY candidate.

LSU is a much better team than BC. UNC was playing at home. OK was in Baton Rouge. They'll be #1.
Interesting to see how bad his form was as a freshman, and how much Kruger fixed his shot motion, and how much Buddy worked to get this "fix" down pat in his shot. What a huge improvement from freshman to senior.

Make no mistake, Simmons is an absolute monster and the undisputed #1 pick in the NBA draft. It's not close.
But with that said, he's third in my POY rankings behind Hield and Dunn.

You are correct on Simmons. Plays like the basketball is a softball --- kinda like a more versatile Michael Beasley. Physical freak they will not pass on for #1 unless a team has a weird personnel issue.
