On A Side Note: Jeremy Lin To Hornets

Troy Daniels will be the standout in this group but i'm still hoping that PJ finds his groove..

No doubt that Troy Daniels will be good. However, Spencer Hawes will be a valuable asset as well. Add Batum and Lamb and now the Hornets have shooters to go along with Lin. Heels fan first and foremost. However, I do enjoy the Hornets when they are playing fairly well...

I don't watch much NBA ball but I can safely say that if the Hornets are pinning their hopes on that group, they're in big time trouble. That's about as lackluster a free agent and draft haul as there could be. Eeesh.

+1, exactly.

Looks like the Hornets are taking a page out of my NBA team, the Celtics, book. Assemble a mediocre at best squad to squeak into the playoffs as the 7 or 8 seed. Except in today's NBA game - the 7-8 seeds (especially in the East) have 0% chance of winning a title, and very close to 0% chance of even winning a series (as was evident in the Celtics/Cavs series this year: the Celtics had 0% chance of winning a game). Making the playoffs takes you out of the running for a top 3 pick, and out of the lottery pick range altogether. In today's NBA game - you need to rebuild by getting a stud in the draft - and that's generally only found in the top 10 picks (yes Kaminsky was a top 10 pick, but the general opinion is that he's not a franchise cornerstone). Making the playoffs year in and year out only to get bounced in the first round and end up with an average draft haul in the 15-18 pick range is a perfect recipe for perpetual mediocrity.

Let's just say if its the Celtics and the Hornets battling it out for the 8th seed this year: I'm rooting for the Hornets so the Celtics can actually improve through a higher draft pick and save the embarrassment of the inevitable sweep at the hands of the Cavs.

I would be shocked if the Hornets can make the playoffs even in the lowly East. There's not one legitimate NBA star on that team. Hell, there's not too many guys that would start for 50% of NBA teams. Kemba Walker and Al Jefferson are decent NBA starters. I wouldn't have either in the top 10 at their respective positions though. Everyone else on the team is a nobody.

I thought conferences were merged for playoffs?

Guys, I would have to say that some of you are being far too cynical in your approach. Just my opinion, the same as some of you stated yours. I will state that the Hornets got rid of a shooting guard who could NOT shoot the three at all. Henderson was and is nothing more than mediocre at best, imo. Furthermore, Al Jefferson NOW HAS a reliable backup in Hawes. That was not the case this past season. So are some of you still paying attention? Batum is an Nba starter at the two guard position. He will more than cover the two guard spot, replacing Gerald The Victim. Jeremy Lin averaged about 12 points per game this past season. He and Kemba will be a very good PG rotating pair this coming season. Also, do not forget Troy Daniels. The dude can ball. Jeremy Lamb and Michael Kidd Gilchrest will both add depth on defense and/or shooting. Finally, BOTH Cody Zeller and Marvin Williams will become a very good pair at the Power Forward position this coming season. Whatever you may think this roster is a MUCH better roster than the Hornets put on the court this past season. That is also before one adds Frank Kaminsky to round out the regulars. From here the upgraded roster is clearly seen. I guess that the old phrase concerning to each his own, applies here as well. Time will tell. However, Charlotte has made several moves that should indeed upgrade their roster. Now back to UNC and this years basketball squad. That is where my basketball heart really stays. I hope that the Heels end this coming season as the Number One ranked team in ALL of college basketball. That is my main concern...
