Round two is underway! We are going to vote round by round proceeding with the second round in the Animated and Miscellaneous regions. List all your choices in the matchups for the region, so for this second round, you need to pick your favorite in each of the four matchups. You will have until midnight on Sunday to vote in both threads. I’m going to do a write-up of each matchup in the beginning of each thread, and will mark my vote with a spoiler. Lets get to it.
#1 seed Saturday Night Live vs. #9 seed Key & Peele
Key and Peele got their big start in television on MadTV, the main competitor to SNL in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. The duo took their talent and made their own show, a show that stands on its own two feet as one of the funniest, boldest, and smartest comedy shows in the past few years. Saturday Night Live has been launching careers and making viewers laugh for over 40 years, with a roster of talented alumni that any show would be envious of.
#4 seed Jeopardy vs. #12 seed The Price is Right
This matchup boasts heavyweight battle of game show hosts. Trebek vs. Barker. Two titans in their field. This is also a matchup of two shows that regularly see contestants bested by a single dollar. One is a game of skill, testing the knowledge of trivia across any number of subjects; another regularly relies on chance and the advice of audience members holding their fingers in the air.
#3 seed Whose Line is it Anyway? vs. #11 seed Sesame Street
This is definitely the matchup to feature the most different types of shows in the region. Sesame Street brings joy to children of any age, with classic characters like Cookie Monster, Oscar the Grouch, and Grover. Whose Line is it Anyway features talented improvisers Wayne Brady, Colin Mocherie, and Ryan Stiles making up hilarious skits off the fly.
#2 seed Chappelle’s Show vs. #7 seed The Tonight Show
Chappelle’s Show was a short lived sketch comedy show that made the most of its run, bringing to life classic characters that all had Dave Chappelle’s signature sharp comedy ingrained in their DNA. The Tonight Show is one of the longest running shows on television, and the show has been home to legendary comedians like Johnny Carson, Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien, and is now hosted by Jimmy Fallon.

If we were comparing the shows in just the past 5 years, this might be a closer contest, but as much as I love Key and Peele, the answer has to be Saturday Night Live.

While both would be in the game show hall of fame, only one can advance, and my vote is for Jeopardy.

I feel like I have to vote for what I would watch now, and while it pains me to vote against a show I’ve loved since I was very young, I have to go with Whose Line is it Anyway.

While the Tonight Show is a staple in television for good reason, I have to vote for Chappelle’s Show for its bold take on a number of topics while never sacrificing the level of comedy.
