In a great game yesterday, the UNC Women's Soccer team defeated ND 2-1 in OT. It was Anson Dorrance's 900th win a women's coach (he has over 1,000 victories when you count UNC Men's Soccer as well). In NCAA history, the next closest coach with women's soccer victories is 570 (UConn coach who is now retired).

This UNC team is not as dominant as many (most?) of our teams in the past, but it is more of the overall game growing nationwide (which is good for our national team). We tied #1 F$U last week (should have won), and have only lost to #2 dook and away to Cow Tech--both by 1-0 scores. The good news is this team is very young; of the starting 11 yesterday, 1 senior (GK Claudia Dickey), 3 juniors, and the other 7 were freshmen and sophomores. The 2 goals yesterday were by a freshman (Emily Colton) and a sophomore (Avery Patterson). Colton and Patterson lead UNC in goals this year (6 and 5), and freshman Emily Murphy and Senior Rachael Dorwart both have 4.

I had season tickets this year and joined the Tar Heels Soccer Club--which is a great deal. Anyone who lives in the area should look at getting soccer tix next year--10 games and around $75 for season tickets.
