Duke is actually moving the ball fairly well against VT. They just can't cash in for scores.

VT has at worst the 2nd best DC. At worst. I would trade Chizik for Bud Foster any day. No offense to Gene, but Bud is deluxe. I dream of the day when we play defense like #10 for VT.
i have the utmost respect for foster as well but his defenses the last few years are the reason beamer is gone.
No - it was the sucky offense. The VT Ds became less effective, but the offenses were simply duds.
Targeting on VT. These guys are using their helmets as battering rams. Edmonds head-hunted like a boss.
I didn't think targeting could be called like this on a running play. I mean it's not a defenseless player, he didn't launch himself. I mean I'm glad Duke gets the ball back (will never say that again) but that's weird to me.
Are you on drugs or just not very smart? Since 1995 (21 years as DC for VT-Foster) VT has finished ranked 1st in America in Total Defense 5 of those 21 years. They have finished in the top ten in Total Defense in 14 of those 21 years. That is absolutely absurd numbers by Foster. The reason Beamer is gone was because of Frank Beamer and his offense. He put an inept Stinespring as the OC in 2001 who was not qualified, then he KEPT him in place even at the disdain of VT fans. He kept him as OC for well over a decade and VT's problems were offense, not defense. Sure, the last 4 years, the D is not exactly what is was, but make no mistake, the offense even during these past 4 years, ranked far, far worse. Frank Beamer was forced to retire because of his inability to adapt offensively, and his inability to make changes offensively. He raplaced Stinespring in 2013 with a coordinator who was young, inexperienced, and had just been fired by Auburn in Scott Loefller. Beamer could CONTROL him. This is why Beamer hired him. It is also why Beamer was forced to retire.

Ever since Mack was thrown out last year against Baylor and Switz was almost decapitated in the end zone of the same game and nothing was called, I just don't see the consistency.

imo, i don't think it was targeting tonight...the guy had his arms wide apart appearing to try and tackle through the shoulders.
