Notre Dame tossed a TD on its 1st play. Then Syracuse drove it down the Irish throat for a TD. ND blocked the extra point and took in back for 2.

9-6 Irish after a couple of minutes of game time.

Miami leads GT 7-0

I turned to that game, and by the time I switched back, ND has returned the KO for a TD.

23-13 ND

It aint just our D

Miami scored defensive touchdowns on consecutive drives/fumbles by GT. That's the difference in that game at the half as the Canes lead 28-14.

Neither team has looked particularly sharp. I think Miami has benefited from the homecoming hype about Richt and a pitiful non-conference schedule. Still, they're doing what they need so far to get a conference road win.

ESPN2 cuts to Butch Davis in the studio offering analysis on the Miami-GT game. I wonder if he has any interest in getting back into coaching. Being a talking head is a pretty sweet gig.

His name doesn't seem to come up with the bigger jobs.

Impossible to glean anything from this Miami - GT game. Both teams have taken turns looking average then looking efficient then looking average.

As for the Notre Dame game, how the heck does Brian Kelly win the living room in recruiting? He just looks like a mean, miserable person.

And an above average offense can torch either.

Whether our D could stop either is the question.

I have my doubts lol.

One thing you can tell from this game in Atlanta, Richt has rejuvenated the Miami fanbase. There are as many Miami fans at this game as Clemson usually brings to Atlanta. Impressive turnout, based on what I'm seeing on TV.

Not ACC but Tennessee beats UGa on a hail Mary , Butch Jones falls to his knees in joy/relief/thankfulness.

Clemson taking control over Louisville. 21-7 late in first half.

Now it is 28-26, with the Cards driving.

Petrino is a first rate coach, and his teams fight to the end.

Clemson comes back and then holds on barely...hell of a game.

Looked like L'ville was going to take the lead again late before the Clemson D stepped up in the red zone.

Man I wish we had a home game environment like Clemson does...

Sweet gig indeed. Making very good money with no pressure to win.

So do 120 other FBS teams.
I watched the Bowdens coach against one another at Death Valley and it was the most electric football environment I've ever witnessed. Sat on the hill the players run down. I dream of the day we have that kind of home field advantage.

I was there for the Bowden Bowl in 2003. They have one of the best entrances in college football. We have one of the worst. Sad face emoji.

I was trying to remember how long ago it was, my sister and brother in law were living in Easley, just outside of Clemson. Man, time sure flies.

A long time ago, we did. Stadiums weren't as large, of course. But that isn't the issue. It is passionate environment.

UNC lost it for football post-Choo Choo, when the administration wanted to de-emphasize football in order to save the campus from 'professsionalism.' Then they allowed basketball to hire Frank McGuire, who at NYC's St John's ran as 'professional' a college basketball program as anybody in the country save UK. That 1-2 punch guaranteed that UNC students and then alums would start to invest emotionally more and more in basketball

I'm thankful that we have a sport that we're known for. Look at Kansas and UK... they suck magnanimously at football. Look at Alabama in basketball... you don't!

I wish we could get back to Mack Brown-level football, and I think we will.

How far are we actually from that level now? I think Fed has the opportunity to take this program to heights that not even Mack achieved.

How far are we from Death Valley-level pandemonium? Light years. But, if it continues to succeed, then it's possible that they fill the stands weekly.

Clemson has had football for decades. Just ask people who Danny Ford is... he's Paul Bear Bryant and Woody Hayes to these people.

Nah I meant how far are we from the level we were at during the Mack Brown era. Obviously there's a massive difference in talent on the defensive side of the ball... But in terms of winning, if we win 11 games again this year then that will be the best two year stretch ever in Carolina football history.

But yeah we aren't getting anywhere close to Clemson's home game environment anytime soon. And It isn't just the football. Saturdays in Clemson are one giant party. Death Valley is surrounded by intramural/practice fields which are used for tailgating and make for an awesome pregame.

You could fill the seats at Kenan and it still wouldn't be anywhere near as loud as Death Valley because of the culture surrounding UNC athletics. If you want to have a loud football stadium you're going to need drunk rednecks. Few fan bases in the country can match Clemson where that is concerned.

You also need a legacy of football dominance.

Did you see the ALFAC trivia question of the first ACC game to pit two top 5 teams? UNC FSU in 1997! Mack Brown was the shiz-zite. That was his pinnacle.

I think if UNC can get a defense that matches their offense... we'll be set like a jet.

A legacy of football dominance definitely doesn't hurt. But the obnoxious morons down in Columbia always show up and make noise even though they've got one of the worst football programs (and athletic programs) in the history of collegiate sports. A lot of it is definitely cultural.

If we had a defense we'd be one of the top 5 teams in the country IMO.

He does. Think this team plus a legit 2nd team ALL-ACC DT and a legit 2nd team ALL-ACC MLB. Just two top (but not even All-American) players added to the D could make it very good. A DT of that caliber would mess up the middle for opposing teams. An MLB of that caliber would double that mess up for oppsing offenses right in the middle. And that would force offenses to gamble against our secondary much more. And that would cost them.
