Paige out 3-4 weeks with broken hand

Good thing is its the non-shooting hand since he's a lefty. I'm worried about his ball handling after he returns tho. At least for a while. He could also miss the Maryland game.

And the practice injuries bite again! Out for N Iowa, the CBE tournament, and probably Maryland :(

Now we have a real question, who starts for Marcus? Is it Theo for his length and ability to defend as well as over all grit? Is it Britt, who seemed to play better as a off guard than a PG? Is Kenny Williams ready ? Have to factor in how ready Theo really is right now as well.

I would prefer Theo, not sure Kenny is really ready and Nate just struggles to defend so much.

Now don't take this wrong folks, I in no way am saying Marcus getting hurt is a good thing, well not saying it is what I want to have seen happen. But for this team, it could be the one thing I think we have been missing for a while, now they will have to learn to play with out Marcus, now others have to to step up because Marcus is not there to bail them out, it could bring them closer as a team. Then when Marcus comes back over all we could be much better than we would have been. Kenny, Britt, and Theo are going to have to play like leaders and of course Joel Berry (but I felt that Joel would have that mindset anyway).

Hate this happened to Marcus but better now than at the end of Feb.

Wishes for a speedy recovery, MP . .

Actually, I think the rest of the backcourt crew will do just fine, Berry, Britt, White, Pinson and Williams should be able to give us what we do need, besides, a few extra minutes for these guys won't hurt us one bit and in the long run it will actually help.

Get well Marcus. It's searching for a silver lining, but this will increase run for some folks who'll be better for it later in the year. Hopefully Williams is ready to contribute in limited minutes.

I agree with all of that. At the very least, like Billy says, it gives some guys some early season burn to get them ready for the real season. And we should still be able to beat most anyone on our early season schedule without Marcus except for a couple teams. 3-4 weeks isn't that bad. It could have been a lot worse.

Ugh, obviously horrible news.

Only silver lining is as someone mentioned above, if it helps the other guys in the backcourt for our stretch run by playing more minutes early. Just get Marcus healthy for the ACC/NCAA run, we have 1 goal this year.

Tough blow. Impossible to replace that experience/leadership. You have some seasoned vets so the impact could be minimal.

Think I prefer Berry at the point with Britt at the 2 but I know that either can bring the ball up and get into the offense. Rotate in Kenny and Theo at the 2 spot to get some burn.

This is probably a blessing in dusguise. Let's Marcus get off his feet to not have his feet sores come back. Let's them get experience and alleviates pressure of being number one. Let's Berry show out also.

OK, now everyone rub that rabbits foot, knock on some wood, throw salt over your shoulder and pray to every higher power you can think of. Lets hope this is IT for injuries, the Heels have had their share and it's enough!

Back in my day we taped the bad one to a good one and didn't miss much more than a water break. Of course, none of us were planning on playing in the NBA the next year.

Well what can you say!?/ Get well Marcus!!! Obviously we need you
Easy now . It's a finger and non-shooting. Much easier recovery than elsewhere in the hand.

But that being said: SON OF A B*******!!! DAMN IT.
We do NOT need this.........

A coach buddy asked me last week which player(s) we could absolutely not afford to lose.
I said, "That's easy: Marcus Paige or Joel Berry." We will not achieve our goals with either of them out for extended time.
Alright, deep breath --- better now than later. No reason to think he won't recover completely before Xmas.. This shouldn't be another Kenny Smith wrist situation.
Get well!

Britt at the 2. The ball needs to be in JB's hands running the show.
BTW: Anyone still sleeping on Stilman's depth value?

Well said, Billy. Better now than later.

The timetable appears that he will be back for the Maryland game. The Heels are ranked #1 and they should win all the games leading into the Maryland game without Marcus. Let's not kid ourselves. The Heels absolutely need to capture a #1 seed and they should be able to win all the games leading into the Maryland game. Just can't lose to these lower ranked teams with or without Marcus.

I'll get excited if he comes in an hits a 3-pointer in a non blow-out. Practice does not count.

No doubt it gives more guys run early but Roy plays a lot of guys anyway. That is a benefit here but it is the only one and obviously does not outweigh the negatives. In a season where you have the potential to compete at a high level guys need to play together as much as possible. This hurts that. This just seems to be a constantly recurring theme with guys getting hurt every year. Sucks.

It's better now than later in the year but that's a tough, tough way to start the season. Hope he can come back sooner than 3-4 weeks.

I agree better now then later but personally I feel for Marcus for the Nov 21 game... Supposed to be his homecoming and now more then likely he will be on the sidelines... He has been through a lot and to miss that will be harder for him then anything I would think.... Get well soon Marcus!!!

If a time in the season exists for him to be out 3-4 weeks this is the time. Joel Berry and Theo Pinson time to show what you got.

we obviously will have a lot of extra minutes for somebody to get.

Better early than later! Plus being a hand injury and non shooting hand to boot he can stay conditioned and also get shots up (non contact obviously)

People who follow Carolina basketball know that coach Williams like Coach Smith was are very loyal to their upper class men and for that reason alone Britt will start at the two and as the game progresses will switch to the point when Berry needs a break. Also this move will allow Pinson and Williams tp play some at the two. Bank on it
