Ah folks we are WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY behind schools like KY and KU We all have known about the KY basketball dorm....now look at this in Lawrence. LOOK at the facilities they can offer to recruits.

Are we still housing players in Granville towers??? If so that ain't gonna cut it...not any more

Fedora said awhile back college football recruiting is an "arms race" as he talked about the NEW indoor football facilities that will be built we are the LAST ACC program to do
In basketball, like football the tools available to our competitors are better, MUCH better than we have at our disposal to use.

Folks we gotta get into the 21st century...otherwise continue to expect KU KY etc to clean up in recruiting

I'm from Kansas and I remember when they decided to build this. There were people screaming about it being impermissible benefits for players. They argued that, no, since there are non-athletes there too that it should be ok.

Nice sentiment, but we both know that there's too much cash for that to ever happen.
No doubt, we'll be paying them a salary before too much longer. Eventually, I think they'll have a special course of study just for athletes, one that is intentionally less rigorous and is geared toward futures in pro sports(with courses in how to manage your money, how to hire an agent, etc...). Basically, it would entail abandoning any pretense of the student athlete, something that many schools(SEC?) have basically done already. But there's just too much money being generated by sports now, as you said, and schools have become dependent upon it to operate.

It's actually hypocritical how some schools(UNC included) will complain about the excesses of big time college athletics, yet won't turn down a penny of the millions it generates. On one hand they hate what big time athletics entails, on the other hand they're addicted to the funny money.

I prefer the idea of letting College Players make their own money vs having to just pay them (i.e. through Deals, Appearances, or Partnerships with companies like Nike) The NCAA's laws are currently so strict on things like this and I'm willing to bet having to dish out punishment and keeping track of these things is a lot harder than regulating the payments and gifts that a College Player could receive.

Prime Example: A college musician can play in a University Orchestra and make money while traveling with other Orchestras, signing deals with Companies or other organizations willing to pay them for their talents, or even just performing on the street as a Street musician. Why can't a Basketball player do the same with his or her own talents.

So many sides (NCAA, Colleges, Coaches, etc.) have so much refusal to change. But it's only a matter of time that something will change, regardless of what these parties want. I just hope it doesn't go the route of disbanding Collegiate Sports altogether.

As far as our recruiting slipping, part of it can be attributed to the likes of schools like Dook, UK, abd others being considered "cool" at the moment. With people like Drake and others being so heavily involved with their organizations, it gives them a good look with the younger crowd.

Hence why I'd love to see someone like J. Cole perform at LNWR one of these days!

Yup I lived in G Ville as well in the 70s... had a pool then and still does I guess.... Was thought to be kinda cool at the time...now really compared to the KU, KY places it is a dump

Ladies and gents Carolina NEEDS to upgrade their basketball facilities A S A P

No doubt our LNWR needs a facelift. Do away with most of the skits and maybe hold a practice session to show the fans what one looks like. Maybe incorporate a 3-pt point shooting contest and then hold a scrimmage. And J. Cole is a great idea to relate to the young recruits.

Perhaps it's time to do away with sports in college, with the exception of intramurals. The tail is wagging the freakin' dog!

I started to post this yesterday but didn't. For a while now I have been past the point where I believe there should be NO scholarships for any sports. I know it will never happen, but Huge money has turned the idea of amateur sports into a twisted joke. Outright cheating abounds, as do "legal" forms of bribery seeking to lure recruits. And most likely it will get worse, as things tend to devolve rather than evolve where huge money is involved. Say that line 5 times quickly! :D

I know this won't happen because mega $$$ wins most of the time. I dropped the NBA over 10 years ago. Dropped the NFL starting about 3-4 years ago. I have withdrawn from college sports to the exclusion of watching anything other than UNC. At some point I may have to cut the cord entirely. Not quite yet though.

Been watching the Tar Heels for 50 years now. Love 'em. But hate much of where $$$$$$$$$$$$$ has taken "amateur" sports.

One of the few positives is that nearly all our games are televised.
