Let me first say that I'm still extremely frustrated and upset with last nights performance. However after 24 hours of reflection I feel it's worth at least trying to gain some perspective.
At the beginning of the season I said I thought we would go 9-3. We are still capable of that, and even reaching 10 wins if we win out and win the bowl game. While last night was frustrating, I reminded myself that the Heels have won 2 games that could have easily gone the other way (Pitt and FSU).
I was a teenager during the 90s and was ecstatic with the direction of the program under Mack Brown...then he left and I was devistated. I was consistently frustrated with the mediocrity of the program (and that's being generous at times) during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Then I found hope with the hiring of Butch Davis. I was then frustrated with the 7-5 and 8-4 seasons, knowing the talent was there to be 9-3 or 10-2 each year.
Larry Fedora and his staff aren't perfect. They screwed up last night and were out coached...but he has the Tar Heels in position to post back-to-back 10 win seasons. The future is still bright and it's a testiment Coach Fedora and staff that they have raised our expectations as fans to this level. As upsetting as last night was, I still believe in Coach Fedora and the team and I honestly feel we are in for several more years of success.
