Pete Nance's Season

That back injury wrecked it.

Anyone who has ever had back problems knows they linger, sometimes never going away. I can't even imagine trying to bang with other post players. You get hit in the back constantly.

I didn't like the way Nance was used, he was not in any way similar to Brady Manek so why ask him to do Brady Manek things and expect the out come to be consistently good? I treally doesn't matter what any of us (including Hubert) thought he was before coming to UNC, it became clear the kid was a center and not a Brady like Stretch 4. It is one thing to have the kid pop outside on ball rotation and take a open look trey every now and then but a very different thing to feature him as a outside jump shooter to the extent he ran to a spot and stayed there 40 feet from the basket.

Brady was constant movement, constantly trying to place himself in to a passing lane and was ready for the shot on the catch, Nance was neither of those. He was a center that could pass the ball pretty well had a IMO good mid range game and could block a shot for ya at times. That screamed high low off motion offense to me when on court with Bacot. It also screamed why the heck are we playing Bacot so many minutes when we have a decent back up with Nance?

Weird fit. Being hurt probably didn't help. Ironically, our best offense was his hi-low with Bacot.

I do feel for him. He clearly wanted to go to a winning situation and play meaningful games. Then we have the season we have and Northwestern wins a NCAA tournament game. That's gotta be a tough one to swallow.

Pete’s NBA stock completely crashed. Along with every player on the 2022/2023 UNC roster.

Agreed. I hope HD is successful, but his insistence on trying to make Nance play as you described makes me question his coaching ability. Hoping for much improvement real soon ... or UNC is gonna be looking for another coach. Go Heels !!!
