not this week, i don’t think.

Why do you say that?

He’s won here before, he’s 13th in total driving which is the key stat here, and he’s the best long iron player to ever live (also very important at BP)

Just a Tiger hater or do you have solid reasoning?

Because he’s 43 years old. That’s really all anyone doubting Tiger would have to say. But if more is needed, then you could talk about his bad back, the difficult course made more difficult by impending weather, the strongest field of any tournament and the unlikeliness of a guy who won his first major in a decade being able to win his second in a month.

His back is fine, everyone near him says he feels great. He excels on difficult courses.

The other points are fine but I could give points like that for everyone in the field. I just think when you look at stats that matter at BP and Tiger’s history here it’s tough for me to understand a “not this week” and I was curious if he had some reasoning or if it was just gut feeling.

Grinding it out for 4 days in colder weather and rain isn’t the same for a 27 year old as it is for a 43 year old that’s had multiple major back surgeries. Tiger has talked about the inordinate amount of time he has to devote to stretching it during tournaments. If he tees off at 9:00 am, he’s up by 4:00 am to start getting his back loose.

This isn’t Augusta. This isn’t a cute little course perfectly suited to his game and he hasn’t won here repeatedly. He won here in 2000 whatever when he was the most dominant golfer the game had ever seen. Tiger could win. But it is not at all crazy to doubt him this weekend and there is a plethora of reasons that are rational.

I would be shocked if Tiger wins.

Agreed. I knew that if/when Tiger won another major people would come out and start acting like he was going to win them all from now on and act like this was early 2000s Tiger. That's just not the case. He's not the same player he was duing that time. It's reasonable to think that Tiger won't win.

It’s likely he won’t win. It’s likely any player you name won’t win.

No one is saying it’s 2002 (when he won here btw).

What I’m saying is he should absolutely be one of the favorites when you look at the course and his game right now in 2019. 10 to 1, the Vegas line, feels right. Still makes him a/the favorite.

And it hasn’t just been Augusta. East Lake was not a cute little course. The PGA and British Opens last year were not cute little courses.

I'm lost on why you're taking such issue with logical rationale presented as to why Tiger MAY not win.

Even if he doesn't win, the talk will be about Tiger. You won't see much coverage of the winner. Everyone will be talking about Tiger's last win and trying to decide if it was a fluke win or if he's going to win more.

I don't take such issue. I'm having a convo, it's good golf talk...that's all.

Ok. I thought you were taking it personal. I don't know why I read that into your comments. My apologies.

And that's a huge part of the reason I didn't like the original Tiger. He knew that and even leveraged it. But he's been humbled greatly and now seems genuinely appreciative for his ability to simply compete and be just another guy on tour.

i guess if guys in front hit it out of bounds, have a lost ball, or choke and he’s within two, maybe he could muster up another run...i happen to believe the perfect storm happened at augusta, along with the fact that that was his first ever come from behind win in a major.

then, throw in the conditions and the track they’re on this week, i’d say his chances weaken.

the media is falling pray to this as well...it was kinda silly to ask the defending champ if he’s afraid of tiger woods.

I can't really blame the media though. They know that Tiger brings in viewers and more clicks. They are just doing what makes them more money. It's no different than politics.

#7 and #15 still look ridiculous

I’ve played the Black 3 times and can’t imagine people being on the green in regulation on 15. It’s so long and so far uphill with junk surrounding the green.

Not many guys going to go -1 from 11-16 which is what Tiger has done. Ugly double to start but great job righting that ship so far.

Brooks is a machine in majors.

BOOM. Eagle for tiger. Two doubles and he’s still at -1
