He's been on fire lately. Last 5 games he's averaged

10 points
8 rebounds
6 assists

If you don't count the game he was hurt, you can go back a bunch more games with similar numbers.

If he keeps it up, will he get the pro interest he hasn't received so far?

I have no idea, but it seems like if he could learn to shoot he could make a roster. Of note, NBAdraft.net has Berry going 55th in their latest mock draft. First time I've seen any of our guys in a mock.

With the lack of even a mid range jump shot let alone a 3 ball it is going to be difficult for him to stick in the Association. He does hit his free throws, plays well finishing or play making on dribble drives into the paint, runs the court well, and maybe most in his favor, he is long and versatile. He can match up as a 2 or 3 for defensive purposes, maybe even chase some point guards from time to time. Maybe, a Andre Robertson type role? That lack of a shot though is a major deficiency for GM's to look past.

I think Pinson is a more versatile player than Tokoto, another player who couldn't shoot, and he got drafted. I can see a team saying man if we can just get this kid to shoot a little and take a gamble in the 2nd.

His game reminds me of Draymond Green with the Warriors. But let me be clear, I'm NOT saying he is Draymond Green right now. But if he improves his shooting ability, he could develop into a similar role and be a consistent role player off the bench. The key for him will be if he can learn to shoot 3's, which is what everyone in the NBA does now.

Been saying that for a while now too. More athletic but obviously smaller than Draymond. But they are both Swiss army knife players

That sounds right. If they somehow think they can bring Theo's shooting around, worth a chance.

Likely not drafted but then gets picked up by a team very quickly.

Pinson should/could make G-league roster. Berry is a second rounder all-day.

Yeah, if Tokoto snuck in, I feel Pinson could to.

Tokoto wasn’t good and is absolutely terrible offensively. He can’t shoot or dribble a lick. If not for his freakish bounce, he would be playing at the Y somewhere. Pinson is 100x the player JP was.

Pinson's ability on defense should also help his chances for the NBA.

I’d be shocked if he got drafted. But hey, if Lance Thomas can develop a jump shot, then there’s no reason Pinson can’t make a dent in the league within a few years.

I think Theo Pinson is a Great Tar Heel and so valuable to the Heels but I don't think he will get drafted but feel he could play overseas. As long as Pinson is on the court I feel we got a chance to win. I hate that he only has a limited number of games left as a Tar Heel but believe he probably would say the last 4 yrs have been great and I wish he could leave Chapel Hill with another title and his degree.

Great comp. Was thinking the same thing. Draymond has a ugly shot, but it works.

His mid-range shot has looked good...

Well, he’s made some but I wouldn’t say they’ve “looked good”.

I love Theo’s game. He’s a player’s player; a terrific teammate. The problem is that his shot is worse now than it’s ever been. The form is all wrong. His shot is hideous. If his shot was at least improving, I think he’d get a look because of being a jack of all trades. I understand the Draymond comparison but I don’t like it. Green was a much better shooter in college than Pinson. I like the Michael Cooper comparison and I’ll offer up another: Gerald Wallace. The problem with the latter two comparisons is that the game is played differently than in Cooper’s time or even Wallace’s time. The only role that would be suitable for Pinson in today’s game is the “3 and D” role (Trevor Ariza?) and he obviously is lacking the “3” part of it.

Seems like Theo would need exactly the right fit in a team to make it, so maybe that's better achieved not being drafted, especially since 2nd round doesn't really matter anyway. I could see someone taking a chance on him and it would be cool to be drafted but he's not likely to come in and thrive without bouncing around. He has improved FT shooting considerably and his ability to handle, pass, and play D would make him more valuable than lots of guys on NBA benches one would think.

It's more then the "3 and d" role for SFs in the nba. That's not the only role for Theo to make the NBA either.

Kyle Anderson plays the 3 and he can't shoot a damn lick. I compared Theo to him and Draymond.

Slim if we’re honest. Not to get drafted but to make a roster. If Theo had a decent shot I would think he can make a roster. He’s a good defender, not elite by NBA standard, good passer but again not elite but the positive is he can impact games in other phases besides scoring.

Theo needs to decide if he wants a career in basketball. I can see him being a coach or analyst. He has tons of personality so his future should be bright regardless.

Draymond has 20lbs on Theo. Draymond shot 39% from 3 his senior season, Theo is shooting 16%. Draymond averaged 10.6 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1 block per game. Theo is 6.2, 0.9, and 0.5 respectively.

Theo's improved FT% is very hopeful for his improved 3pt shot, but 16% is 16% guys.

I hope Theo gets a shot, but Draymond is a perennial all-star so that comparison is just off to me.

You think Draymond is an all star on any team? Or does that fact that he played with 2 all stars, and now a 3rd help his game?

I seriously doubt that 16% is a truly accurate average for Theo. He should regress towards a higher average if he even sparingly takes open 3's for the rest of the season/tourneys. He's stopped taking them which means smaller sample size, in addition to less confidence/rhythm. I'd imagine he could shoot a healthy 30% if he continued working on his shot and was consistently getting looks.

Don't even bother. Their style of play is similar, it was a good comp.

If you're using that argument we can say that both Grayson Allen and Steph Curry have a similar style of play.

Wanna play that game? I certainly don't.

If my dog could walk on two legs and had thumbs it could get me a beer out of the fridge and I'd never have to get up again.

The facts are she has neither and Theo has also never shot 30% from 3 (which isn't even that good anymore).

It sounds like you need a better dog.

I agree, comparing Theo to an NBA Star is not fair on Theo.
I don’t know enough about nba rosters but it might be there are some guys sitting at the end of some benches whore better comparisons.
Anyway, all I know is that Theo is a gamer... he will get paid to play somewhere, and as a poster said above, he’s got intelligence and personality to thrive for a long time off the court.

A dog doesn't need thumbs to get a beer out of the fridge.

That's also a pretty stupid analogy considering you can both train a dog to get a beer for you, and you can teach someone to be a better jump shooter.

I never said 30% was good. I said it was healthy. As in passable.

You actually watch the NBA. So saying tha is stupid.

If I compare Trae Young and Step Curry thats game, its accurate. Curry didn't average the assist Trae Young have so we can do a numbers game all day long to make a player feel inferior.

You know when a player game and style is similar. Doesn't mean he's better than draymond. It just means their game is similar. Reason why he gets compare to a Draymond or Kyle Anderson.

I actually don't see it all. Like at all.

Draymond is a great and dirty defender who hits a ton of 3's. The only thing they do similarly is play D well.

Maybe their personality?

On the court, Draymond is 2 inches taller and 20lbs heavier and he can shoot. Theo is more athletic. Sorry guys, I just don't see it.
