Yes he was unfairly toasted on this board and mostly from people who could not carry his jockGood for him. He was so denigrated on this board.
Considering how poorly UNC's bench is showing thus far, it should be a given that Platek would help this UNC team.Yes he was unfairly toasted on this board and mostly from people who could not carry his jock
Yep. 15.6 ppg and 56% from 3, and still the plus defender he was here.Good for him. He was so denigrated on this board.
He never had Roy;s green light. There's a difference between being told to shoot on occasion but knowing if you miss two in a row, out you come --- and an actual green light. The former is what he had to deal with here.I also knew he had it in him. He use to frustrate me however because RW told him to shoot the ball and somehow he wouldn’t do it. Imagine having the green light to shoot but he would last up open shots. Obviously he got over it and now is stroking it.
He was on a short leash at UNC.He never had Roy;s green light. There's a difference between being told to shoot on occasion but knowing if you miss two in a row, out you come --- and an actual green light. The former is what he had to deal with here.
He has an actual green light at Siena, and it shows.
And confidence from teammates. Did Platek have UNC teammates who made it rather clear that they di nit think him worthy of th4 uniform? The fan base had many who felt that, so It should be shock to think that the team did as well.Yep. 15.6 ppg and 56% from 3, and still the plus defender he was here.
They called a set play for him on the first possession, BTW.
Amazing what a good player can do when he gets consistent minutes and confidence from his coach,
Is the FSU board calling for Hamilton's head?Sheesh, Florida State is now 1-5 with loses to Stetson, Central Florida, Troy, and Siena being 4 of those 5 L's. Just AWFUL 😖
Well Gary at least I heard RW say it more than once…..and the common “he’s our best shooter in practice”He never had Roy;s green light. There's a difference between being told to shoot on occasion but knowing if you miss two in a row, out you come --- and an actual green light. The former is what he had to deal with here.

You're leaving out a lot of context.Good for him. He was so denigrated on this board.
Not for anyone who routinely visited this board, there was context galore. All too often, we seem to have a designated whipping boy. It was Platek for multiple seasons. Last season it was Leaky. There were many here who didn’t even want him to return this year, let alone start. I’m so glad he’s proving those bozos wrong. You're leaving out a lot of context.
If you want to believe that or leave out context, them that's fine. There were three groups on the board. One group wanted to make him out to be Larry Bird, which caused one group to go in the complete opposite direction and act like he had the skill of a toddler. Then you had rational people like me who knew he played up to his ranking, which was someone who could easily hang with lower level talent, but would struggle against the top guys. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. That was supposed to be his role and he met that goal. Every good team has a player like Platek. A guy who can give you a few minutes and be the "glue guy."Not for anyone who routinely visited this board, there was context galore. All too often, we seem to have a designated whipping boy. I agree with everything except the “one group wanted to make him out to be Larry Bird”. I saw nothing even approaching that. Now Gary did sing Platek’s praises sometimes, but he never pretended that Platek was anything but a solid player and teammate. Platek’s limitations were apparent, as are most players’ if you scrutinize them. Glad to see him doing well.If you want to believe that or leave out context, them that's fine. This^... and hell, with some of the ill-informed mouth-frothing condemnations he got arounnd here, even the faintest of praise might seem like "Larry Bird" by comparison....I agree with everything except the “one group wanted to make him out to be Larry Bird”. I am not on here much compared to people whose all encompassing love is basketball, but I do read quite a few more threads than I respond to. I never saw anyone suggesting that Platek was anything close to a potential ALL ACC player or Final Four MVP just waiting to happen, much less an all time great. What I saw was posters comparing Platek to other UNC guards with more stars and noting that he made no more mistakes per minute played than they did and/or that the team did as well during Platek's PT as it did when a higher ranked recruit was playing. In response to such posts there would be a barrage of posts saying that Platek had absolutely nothing to offer and never should have had a scholarship wasted on him.I agree with everything except the “one group wanted to make him out to be Larry Bird”. Before "Birdy" Manek, who did quite the imitation down the stretch last Spring.IIRC, it was Luke Maye that got the Larry Bird (wink-wink) comparisons.
The only difference of opinion is that Florida State is not a P5 level team with their injuries and suspensions. They are 1-4 against not mid major, but lowest level D1 teams. Which Siena is. The MAC, Missouri Valley, Big West teams were not even interested in adding Mr. Platek. I wish him well, he is at his level. The over love is what caught him feedback, he is not and never was a consistent playing time player on a good Carolina team. A great practice player type at UNC level, that is it.My sentiments as well, he was not as tune in today as he was versus Florida State. Sorry, some players are not talent enough to play a consistent games against P5 teams. That's why they have mid major teams which they can get sufficient playing time, and thrive. Platek will always be a Heel, and will continue to monitor his success.
That's really not a fair take. Miss. gave him shooter's respect the whole game, denying him off-ball, and he got fouled more than once one drives that weren't called. Still, he had 3 boards, 3 assists and 3 steals. Andrew can play at any college level.Well Platek playing against the only decent power 5 team today he will face, Mississippi (Georgetown is on their schedule but they are as bad as Florida State) he just had 4 points on 2-7 shooting in 30 minutes, 0-2 from 3. He did have 2 boards and 3 assists though. They lost by 12.
There is a reason he is where he is after the portal. I think he is at a good level for him, and will be a solid player for Siena. Wish him well.
Said he should be starting over Coby White and was our best PG by a longshot. That's just a solid player and teammate? Coby was our best player.I agree with everything except the “one group wanted to make him out to be Larry Bird”. I saw nothing even approaching that. C'mon Gary you're better then that, he got guarded and played poorly. That's really not a fair take. Miss. gave him shooter's respect the whole game, denying him off-ball, and he got fouled more than once one drives that weren't called. Still, he had 3 boards, 3 assists and 3 steals. UNC should have reached out to him….sure can use him now…..Caleb at point and Platek at the 2That's really not a fair take. Coop you are right and believe me I have great material locked and loaded when he starts to play like a real PG.You are a very bright individual Grover, everybody knows that Caleb is not a point guard. Nor will he ever be a point guard, not even in the pros if he makes it, and stay in the pros. RJ will be fine, soon you will be phrasing his overall play at PG. It's early my brother.
Some of the issues we are having is off the ball movement, that's one of the things which Manek brought to this team last year. The guy was limited in some phrases of the game, but he was constantly in motion on the offense end, working to get open. So far, and it's early that movement from the team has been missing. Sure they will get their act together, it's going to take patience on our end to endure.Coop you are right and believe me I have great material locked and loaded when he starts to play like a real PG.
Here are a few:
1. RJ is getting Real Jazzy with those passes
2. RJ is a Real Jewel as he takes them to school
