Pretty sure Lamelo Ball is...

This is what I wish the NCAA would change. A kid should be able to do that. All these other sites like ballislife.com generate $$$ off these kids and make them stars before they step foot in college.
If you let him, then what stops say Adidas giving u a shoe in high school to go to Kansas?

Just make the steering part against the rules. You could also limit it to players that have been in college for a year. In other words, they would have to be a sophomore before they could get paid for endorsements.

We've all seen, read, discussed, debated, etc., this argument for years. I continue to lean towards keeping the rules as they are. Kids are getting a free education, and the schools have to provide the best possible facilities, get them on tv and provide them exposure, take care of marketing, tv rights, travel, etc., etc. Can't help but feel like the institutions should have the right to make money.

I understand the other sides of the argument as well.

11th grade, and no one will ever buy his f****** for $395 shoe. lmao.

It's his Dad own company. Why can't his parent give him a shoe?
So, if Adidas hires someones dad they can "give him a shoe" to profit off of?

I mean, it is a huge slippery slope.

What is important to remember is that Lamelo is having his shoe sold by a company.

Hell, they barred a kicker who made profits on a youtube channel.

I think you're reaching too hard on this one. You comparing an established company that makes deals with colleges. His dad company is not connected to any school.

Me personally I hope he doesn't play and get drafted. Maybe that will get NBA to change the rules to letting kids go to the NBA out of high schoool. A guy like Zion can sit out a year, workout and get drafted.

If Adidas hires someones dad, then he doesn't own the company. Completely different case.

The only reason it's a slippery slope is because the NCAA sets the bar so damn high for "student" athletes compared to regular students.

NCAA barely even enforce their own rules. Wasn't Top 5 recruit Cam Reddish spotted with an agent a couple days/weeks ago, yet you don't see them sniffing around that. They only care on a case by case basis anyway.

Example look how others made profit off of Johnny Football T-shirts...or Anthony Davis "brow" clothing at Kentucky. A kid should be able to sell things off his own brand/name.

Rush on our team has his own Hat company. If he was a bigger name, guarantee the NCAA would have an issue.

so, if he worked during the summer..worked FOR someone else..acceptable..if he has talents to create a comfortable revenue--let's investigate..and of course, gifts(legal) unacceptable even from parents..not all parents and their incomes are created equal!
