I have really noticed that the world has become more of me first....
The emphasis on individualism has supplanted the importance of family and community, IMO. Sad.

That was a beautiful story. What a coincidence that such a close friend was a match. I encourage people to consider donating -- blood, marrow, organs, etc. You can literally save a life with what is often a simple procedure. I donate blood every 8 weeks at the hospital near where I work. Also, because of Mike Irby's situation, I looked into being a marrow donor but was rejected.

typically it is because they did not have an antigen that matched in the blood
Didn't even get that far in the process. No parting gifts, nothing.
