Raleigh is one of the opening weekend sites of the NCAA Tournament this year, with the other 7 pretty far from Chapel Hill. I am pasting a note I put in the Positives & Concerns to ask you guys the question: How important is it to you the Heels start out in Raleigh and why?
Here is what I had in the piece:
Raleigh – The Tar Heels may well be back in this building in three weeks to open the NCAA Tournament. Defeating the Wolfpack increased those odds, but the Heels still must get through the ACC Tournament likely with no more than one or perhaps two losses if they want to assure themselves a spot so close to home. With the other opening-weekend sites being Brooklyn, Des Moines, Providence, St. Louis, Oklahoma City and Spokane, it’s easy to see why playing in Raleigh that weekend is desired. Also, aside from the 1957 NCAA title team, UNC’s other four NCAA champions each started their runs in the state of North Carolina.
