Radar Offer Board--Updated 2/12/21

Here is a rough analysis of the 2020 offers and commitments. My read. I welcome your thoughts.

Roy's first offer for the 2020 class was to in-state stud Day ‘Ron Sharp on 4/30/18. Sharpe committed less than 3 months later on 7/17/18 giving Roy a great start to the 2020 class.

After Sharp's commitment, 17 offers were made over the next 14 months before the shock commitment from Walker Kessler on 9/23/19. Kessler's OV was on 9/20/19 and he committed a few days later on 9/23/19. Auburn and Duke were favorites for Kessler prior to his UNC OV.

At this juncture, 2 of 6 ships have been filled.

Ziaire Williams and Bryce Thompson were top priorities for Roy, but both played dodge ball and eventually signed at Kansas (Bryce) and Stanford (Ziaire).

After Kessler's commitment, it appears that Roy slow played the remaining offers other than Caleb Love, RJ Davis, Bryce Thompson, Ziaire Williams , Puff Johnson, Cade Cunningham and Kerwin Walton.

If appears that Roy was saving the last ship for Ziaire into the Spring. Once Ziaire committed to Stanford, Walton took the last ship 3 weeks later.

RJ Davis and Walton were the last offers and they got the last 2 ships.

In conclusion, it appears that Roy was lucky to have a quality player like Walton available after Ziaire committed to Stanford in the Spring.

I watched Mr. Anderson's videos. He has good skill and moves well. He will need to grow into his body and increase strength tremendously. He will need to work on lateral movement and increase his explosiveness a bit too. I think he would absolutely thrive at UNC and Jonas would turn him into a beast!

Trevor Keels Eliminated UNC 9/9/20

2021 (12 offers, 1 commitment)
Paolo Banchero OFFERED 7/14/19--Eliminated UNC

Since Roy is communicating with Jarace Walker: Do you guys think he is most likely to go straight league? He is 2022 I believe and I think high schoolers will be able to go then.

I like where we stand with Holmgren and Smith, but I worry about the G with them.

Kap,

Nothing final on the 2022 direct to NBA. I believe the G-League is going to be dominant.

I like where we stand with Holmgren, but I feel Smith is not really interested in the Heels! I would be mildly surprised if Holmgren pops for us and shocked if we get J. Smith! Both will be great college players who could be game changers if they stayed 2 years. Both will probably have long NBA careers too no matter where they go!

Though I was never offered, I'll certainly walk-on!

:):D:eek::D:)

5'8" 232 lbs. NON-shooting guard. Defensive specialist. Crafty-court specialist.

Limited jumping ability.

Student of the game.

Schools considered: Rider, Philadelphia Textile, Univ. of Alaska - Nome, Western Penitentiary - Hard Core Criminals Type. Levin Worth Military Academy - Kansas. Angola vs. Guards Reform School, La.

Always around the water-cooler type of mentality.

Michael Milken - Greed is Good kinda guy.
Bob, if defense is your specialty, would you consider committing to the dukies, I mean they could use some defensive help and I would not mind watching how amazing you would be as a defensive stopper at 5'8" and 232! LOL

Nothing but love buddy! LOL

He could play at puke if....

He masters the arts of perpetual motion screens, flopping at random intervals, and man-hugs!

I see we are now interested in Jai Smith. He is listed as 2021 & 2022 at different sites. Did he reclassify and which is it? I like the progression on his videos and I believe this kid will be great in college! He has that new age Big game and seems equally comfortable in or out. Haven't seen much of his shooting, but his handles seem adequate. He seems strong and has good weight for 6'10". He protects the rim and is developing post moves/counter moves. I love the quote he gave about Loving UNC, but i saw an earlier interview where he said he grew up liking the rat patrol! Any idea about mutual interest?

Skyy popped for Kentuck and seems to be remaining 2022. Is this completely over and what does it indicate for other recruits?

I think as a recruit, looking at the uncertainty of the season and the amount of talent on the roster rn, I’d consider other options. This is my most unbiased opinion I can give on the Clark situation. Whether he gave Roy a silent verbal and Evans caught wind then dipped or not, you gotta imagine w everything the NCAA is implementing that all these guys could potentially be back for the 22 szn. From Love to Davis to Leaky and so on, the Heels could be stacked in the backcourt through 2-3 yrs now. I’m not saying I didn’t want Clark as much the next guy here. In fact, I was one of the ones advocating that this thing was over in late September, early October. But, things changed. And for obvious reasons, I don’t think it’s because UK was more appealing. I think it simply gave him a better opportunity. So I’ll eat crow on this one but I don’t think recruits are getting turned off by Carolina after the blunder of a season we had. I think it’s simply bc, well, we’re stacked pretty much everywhere except the 3 spot.

This being said, I do think Sallis waiting until he can visit bolds well. If memory serves, we have a pretty solid track record when we’re able to get guys on campus. Hell, Davis’s entire recruitment made a 180 the second he left. So, I’m still pretty ecstatic for that push and confident as long as Sallis waits til Spring!

My sense is that if we get Hunter Sallis, we'll be his consolation prize. I hope that's wrong. But if it isn't wrong, what's he waiting for? Don't misunderstand me, I'd be delighted to have him even if we aren't his first choice. Just as long as he buys in when he's here.

Personally I expect RJ to be our starting PG next year and to be top notch. But we haven't seen him play at this level yet, so who knows? Even if he is a great PG next year, we still need a backup.

Not a whole lot left on the board. Should we be offering any of these guys?

#68 PG TyTy Washington 6'3 185

#101 CG Wesley Cardet 6'6 175

#107 PG Jaylen Blakes 6'2 195

247 says this about Washington:
Consistently productive point guard with good size and length. Solid frame with plenty of room to add strength. Has nice combination of scoring and creating for point guard position. Has ball skills and vision to consistently create for others while his jumper is playable to the perimeter. Finishes well at rim due to physical tools. Has ability to defend both guard positions at next level due to instincts and length. Projects as high major starter with professional upside if game continues to progress.

Both Cardet and Blakes have videos at 247. They look pretty good. Blakes may be the lowerst ranked, but if he were a half step faster, he'd be top-50 easily, imo. Good handle, excellent body control, decent outside shot, nice passing. Can you teach that extra half step?

These guys might not be starters, but they certainly look like they could be good additions to the team.

They all have offers from a few of the better teams - not Duke or Kentucky but Auburn, Maryland and such - so if we want them, we should be moving on them (if we haven't already).

Grad Trans as backup until recruiting shapes up. I think Roy and company could make something out of all three listed, however. Really like 6'6" though!
