Random Picture Thread Part Deux

I'll believe Roy can recruit a 5 star again when I see it, I'm sure it'll happen but I won't hold my breath on it, as nothing is pointing to it happening with the players we're aware of now. I don't think he'll ever get another OAD though, unless its a recruit ranked outside of the top 20 that just happens to have a blow out season and capitalizes on the hype - but even that's doubtful to happen since freshman don't have big enough roles to get the exposure.

Meeks is more capable of downing a dozen donuts in one sitting than jumping over them.

I'll never forgive Britt for the Wisconsin Sweet 16 botch a couple years ago. I'd rather see 7th, Robinson and Williams get equal or more minutes than Britt.

Blown assists and second assists are equal. But if either are Berry's they're better than anyone elses.

Um, we just went to the title game and nearly won. Had some bad calls as well.
Roy ought to have had us more prepared for that last play and I was begging him to have someone challenging the in-bound pass.

Had we won, that last shot by Paige may have done as the greatest in UNC history.

Very good. Just trying to get the new h@@ps thread started with a bang.

Ok, discuss this....was losing in the title game a successful season or a failure?

I was happy we made it. Still stinging from the last play. To me, we should have owned the whole field including the title game. I think it would have been a tougher loss if it happened in 05 or 09

No shame in losing on a last second shot in the finals anytime

Oh, it was absolutely a success IMO. We watched the core of that team struggle to meet their potential for 1.5+ seasons before they finally put it together down the stretch of conference play last season. I'm not sure who was the best team in the country last year; we were in contention but there weren't any teams that were head-and-shoulders above the pack.

So I was pleased to see us advance as far as we did, make a statement that the "Heels are back," and show out during the tournament despite what was inevitably a disappointing ending based on how the events of the final minutes played out. It's worth remembering that we were down double digits with what, 5 minutes left? It wouldn't have been so painful if we had just faded down the stretch, but of course Marcus wasn't going to let that happen. :)

So will Roy be able to recruit a 5 star player ever again?

Will Meeks improve his vertical so we can slide a box of a dozen Dunkin Donuts under him?

Should Britt get more minutes than Berry?

Is a second assist better than a blown assist?

Discuss

Yes. Roy will sign plenty of 5 star guys moving forward. But they'll be of the Tony Bradley and Jalek Felton variety - not of the OAD caliber. Personally, I'm ok with that. (And yes, I'm aware that Felton is currently a 4 star but he was a 5 star and he will be again before he graduates).

Meeks is obviously a below the rim player. And I'm ok with that too. His lack of athleticism doesn't trouble me. It's his lack of toughness and his inability/unwillingness to use his frame to its full potential. He doesn't need to go over defenders. He can't. But he can go into and through his defender.

I'm assuming you're just taking a dig at a particular poaster by asking if Britt should get more time than Berry because that notion is absurd. But Britt has value and I've been a defender of his since early on. I think his role changes this year in that he shouldn't really get many minutes at the 2 and I don't like him and Berry playing together much, but he's a great back up PG and I expect him to be a team leader this year. I like that he makes surprisingly quick moves to the basket and often catches defenses sleeping. He's also pretty clever when finishing and sneaky on the defensive end. He needs to tighten the handle and get the long ball going like he did his sophomore year and if he does that, I can't think of a better back up PG in the ACC.

I'm not familiar with the term "second assist". But if I'm guessing, I'd say you're talking about a hockey assist - a pass that leads to a pass that leads to a score. I acknowledge the heckle with the reference of the blown assist, but for as much fun as y'all have with that guy, I do think he knows the game pretty well and I agree with a lot that he says regarding the game itself. As far as that inside information stuff, I've never given much credibility to anyone that offers it and frankly, I don't really care. So to answer the question as you have posed it, I'll go with the hockey assist as it eventually leads to a score whereas the blown assist doesn't, despite how good of a play it might have been.

You should. He picked a bad day to have a bad day. He has been a really important part of the PG/SG rotation and made some huge plays on both ends of the floor in big games last season. Let it go, man.

I never said I was reasonable in doing so ;)

He had some good moments last year for sure, I hope he has more this year, but from the backup PG role.

Yep. Especially since Hicks stole an in-bounds pass earlier in the game, IIRC. Anything to make it tougher on them and have to use more time getting the ball up the court could've made all the difference. There's no doubt in my mind that we would've won in OT.
