I've wanted to try B's for a long time but I can never catch them open when I'm down east.Originally posted by JuleZ '02 HEEL:
Out of those I'm ashamed to admit I have only been to Skylight. And it is worthy of its reputation.
B's cooks over charcoal and always has, but nevertheless is one of the best.

Wilber's is the best eastern Carolina bbq that I've enjoyed . . . Parker's in Wilson is almost as good, and the hush puppies at Parker's may be the best tasting I've had . .Originally posted by prlyles:
I left off one of the best in the state!! (old age I guess)
Wilber's in Goldsboro
It would be hard for me to pick between Wilber's and Skylight. If I was eating just BBQ I would give Skylight a slight edge but Wilber's have better side dishes. The best combination of BBQ and sides would be Bum's IMO.Originally posted by BillyL:

Haven't been to Skylight Inn or anything in Lexington.
I've heard some very good things about Stonewalls on other boards, I'm going to have to give them a try . . and btw, welcome to the board, nctransplant . .Originally posted by nctransplant:
Long time lurker but had to chime in on this one. I lived in Wayne county for over 40 years. Have eaten at Wilbers, Parkers and many others. The best by far is a little place at Coker's Mill, just outside Goldsboro called Stonewalls!
Is that the place that has BBQ turkey also?Originally posted by nctransplant:

Bridges BBQ is on my list of ones I want to eat at. It's very highly rated by those who know N.C. BBQ.Originally posted by jbradsh1:
What about Alston Bridges BBQ in Shelby? Haven't been there in a few years but was pretty dang good!

Yeah, I've heard Parker's has really went downhill since they quit cooking with wood.Originally posted by heelbent:
I live in Benson...I'd walk to Wilber's before I'd eat at Parker's.
White Swan in Smithfield is OK. Their franchises elsewhere suck, IMO.
King's in Kinston.
Moore's in New Bern
Smithfield Chicken & BBQ isn't bad...for shoulders cooked in electric ovens.
I do like Smithfields, they got a new place in Greensboro, it's pretty dern good eatin!Originally posted by heelbent:

The guy that started Smithfield's is part of the Moore family that owns the BBQ place in New Bern. I met him when I was at Lejeune and he was running the store in Jax. Nice guy, real friendly. I told him I had worked at Bedsole's Pig-n-Chicken in Hope Mills when I was a kid. He told me to come see him about a job when I got out.Originally posted by mikeirbyusa:

I think Smithfields BBQ is as good as fast food BBQ can be but it's still nothing close to the real thing IMO.Originally posted by mikeirbyusa:

They sure charge like a premium joint. More expensive than Wilber's by about 20%.Originally posted by prlyles:

Grady's is still open.Originally posted by nctransplant:
There was another place just outside of Goldsboro that had really good BBQ as well, Grady's. I believe he has since closed. They had great BBQ as well.
That is Grady's. They are still in business.Originally posted by nctransplant:
Must be a different Grady's then. Then one I am talking about is near Sleepy Creek.

I think the place you're referring to is Adam's Roadside BBQ. I've never tried it.Originally posted by eec212020:

I don't know the name of the place between Princeton and Rosewood. (Not Grady's)

I'd go to Smithfield's.Originally posted by heelmanwilm:
There is no great bbq in wilmington. One of the few things i dislike living here. Theres a couple decent places but both serve canned beans and sauce and bagged slaw. If someone came here with a genuine smokehouse bbq they would kill it.

B's was mentioned in one of the first post. I've tried to eat there twice but both times they were closed. I understand they just cook so much BBQ a day and when that runs out they close but you're right, they are ranked right up there with the best in the state. Hope to try it sometime.Originally posted by Louigi:
I cannot believe no one has mentioned B's BBQ in Greenville, NC. I have eaten at every BBQ joint listed in this thread and B's is by far the best.
