Ray signs with OKC...

As discussed many times, it so often is luck of the draw as to finding a situation, but watching Marcus he has shown he can play the Point, hit NBA 3s at a good rate and he'll play D. Some team can get themselves a player if they're smart.

Cavs can use his shooting and youth.

...1-year deal.
Bad news is I guess Marcus will need to look elsewhere to try and make a roster.
Marcus isn't on the OKC summer roster as of a couple of days ago. He is currently on the Timberwolves roster.

No doubt that MP and Butter could really help some franchise! I hope some GMs see past their measurables and see their will to win, hard work, and intelligence! They also are proving effective physically in real games. I certainly see two potentially productive pros when I watch them! (and I try to take off the Tar Heel Specs too!)

Marcus looking good again today... getting love from the commentators as well. TWolves could be a good situation for him. They are Guard-shy these days

Regarding Ray, I think OKC is a good fit for him. They can play Russ at the two with Felton on the floor with him at times. We were talking about Butter in another thread and what he offers to a team, but at this age, I'm not sure Ray is offering a whole lot more than KM can. The one thing Ray has is that he will get after it on defense. Not sure how effective he still is but he definitely puts the effort in. And he's a league veteran with leadership capabilities.

Regarding Marcus, I very much hope he can catch on. I haven't watched Tyus Jones play so I can't say whether Marcus offers more or not. But I know Marcus is a leader. Marcus got to show his leadership chops for 3 years at Carolina. Tyus didn't have the luxury of having the command for 3 years. And just from the outside, it appears that it would be hard for a duke player to really demonstrate leadership. K has such a tight grip on the team and appears to be the leader that I'm not sure there's enough room for players to build that leadership. Of course there have been some fine leaders from duke - Battier, Hurley, etc. But K seems to micromanage considerably more than Roy.

Yeah, at his age Ray would probably be a good fit in OKC. He's not over the hill by any means but his challenge has always been with his weight. You may have noticed in the pick-up game videos he was wearing sweats under his shirt trying to get those extra pounds off. Ray can still ball and he'll D you up and as you said is a proven floor general, and honestly OKC can use a change-of-pace from time to time.

As for Butter, as someone on here once put it, he's a "passing savant" and knows how to be a floor general. A lot of PGs may have more scoring chops but in no universe can they command an NBA team like a Kendall Marshall. Marcus, for his situation, has also proven he can play PG and is a better scorer and defender than Tyus Jones.

And while Butter isn't a strong man-up defender, he knows where to be in Team-D, is very crafty and at a solid 6'4 will get you some boards as well. Marcus will D-up strong for his size. Both these guys should be on NBA rosters this Fall if the respective teams have any sense.

Fantastic situation here for Marcus, he can easily outplay Tyus for the backup PG spot.
Easily? We are basing this off of his summer league play? Tyus was the MVP of last years summer league, so at worst apples to apples comparison of summer league performances- Marcus has a ways to go. Tyus is also on the last year of his rookie deal, so while he's more expensive than Paige, it isn't a huge enough difference to which that would be the reason they would make the switch.

I'm basing it off of 39/33/74 with 3ppg in 13 min per.

Tyus has stunk in real games.
compared to whatever Marcus did in the developmental league at 33mpg? Tyus is also three years younger than Marcus, which is big when you're dealing with who you're adding to your roster. I'm not suggesting Tyus will be anything in the league by any means, but suggesting that Marcus who's older and done literally nothing either will easily beat him out is a bit of a stretch. I don't usually get involved in these back and forths on a rival board but it's the off season and quite frankly I think you're a more reasonable poster so that's why I chimed in. Regardless I think it's a rather inane conversation bc neither of them are ever going to be setting the world on fire here and we are arguing about who might be the backup pg on the wolves.

I will say this, Tyrus Jones is an example of leaving college while you are HOT. He may not be in the league much longer if he don't end up in a favorable situation.

Spot on. As much as I dislike OAD, he made the right decision in that he was as hot as he was ever gonna get as far as getting drafted. As for being ready for the NBA? Now that's a-whole-nuther matter.
