Apologies for the title...

Curious on the board's reaction to the following scenario:

You have a beach vacation that has been booked for months. Your PTO has been approved. Your entire family is coming down. We are 1 week away from this trip. You get an email from the company's owner stating that June is due to be extremely busy and there is a freeze on all PTO -- everyone is expected in the office for the entire month, no exceptions. Oh...and your trip insurance will not cover this scenario. Your only hope for a refund is to have the property re-rented by next week.

Thoughts? Asking for a friend, of course.

How large is the company you work for?

Putting PTO on freeze in June seems like an incredibly ridiculous idea considering that's one of the few times families with kids are able to take vacations. You should start an uprising.

Tell the manager in charge that your PTO was approved and that you will lose the 5K (?)invested, should you have to work. Explain that you'd happily forego your reserved cottage in the best interests of the company, if, the Company would cover any loss.

This kinda stuff is bad for employee morale. Someone in Mgt. failed to plan for covering the approved PTO, and/or any seasonal increase in volume/demand.

Best of luck . . hope things change for ya.

Pretty much the only thing you can really do.

Except maybe set the place ablaze. Solely up to you.

We have about 50 employees. Threatening lawsuit would be about as productive as pounding sand.
