We're 1/3rd of the way through the season and conference play starts on Wednesday. How do you see this team? What do you think they can accomplish? Let's see some predictions.
I see this team losing 3 (maybe 4) ACC games. I think our first loss could come next week in Tallahassee. FSU always seems to have our number when they clearly shouldn't. We've taken way better teams down there and left with a loss. It's strange. Record: 13-3.
On Feb 1, we go to the YUM center. I'm pegging this as a loss. Louisville is a good team (not great and not better than us) and they're capable of beating us in their gym. Record: 18-4.
Starting on Feb 24, we play 3 out of 4 on the road and against stiff competition. On the 24th, we travel to moo. 3 days later, we travel to Charlottesville. Then 2 days later, we play a home game against Syracuse before our March 5th date at duke. I'm predicting 3 - possibly 4 - ACC losses. This 4 game stretch will determine that. I could see us losing at moo because they'll probably build their season around beating us in that game. But if we get through that, I think we only lose at UVa. I know, I know,...playing in Cameron is always tough. But we're significantly better than duke this year and if they don't have Jefferson back by then, we could roll them. So I'm calling a duke sweep and saying we get it done at CIS. Record: 26-5 (15-3) - unless we brainfart in Raleigh and then 25-6 (14-4).
I think that's good enough to win the ACC regular season. I'm a bit scared by the fact we only play UVa once and it's at their house. That could determine who wins the reg season and who gets the #1 seed in the ACC tournament. But for the purposes of this thread, I'll say we finish one game ahead of UVa and win the reg season and the #1 seed. But sadly, I still don't think we win the ACC tournament. It's just doesn't ever seem to be a priority to Roy and the team. I think we lose in the finals giving us a record of 28-6 going into the NCAA tournament. I think that's good enough for a 1 seed (hopefully in the East).
And then, in the NCAA tournament, anything less than a Final Four run is a disappointment. I'm not ready to call a National title. But I'm predicting a FF.
