Among the top candidates to replace Fedora are Memphis' Mike Norvell (who worked with Cunningham at Tulsa), Troy's Neal Brown, Appalachian State's Scott Satterfield, North Texas' Seth Littrell (a former UNC offensive coordinator), Clemson co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott, Maryland interim coach Matt Canada, Georgia defensive coordinator Mel Tucker and former Texas coach and current ESPN analyst Mack Brown (who coached at UNC from 1988 to '97).

So who would you take offthat list??

Elliot would likely be my first choice from that list. But I think we should be going after Mike Leach first

for starters:
Elliott
Canada
Brown

Elliott is half a care taker for an offense installed by Chad Morris. You should never want the caretaker. The guy who installed it is the one you want. Many of the best caretaker coordinators simply can't make the jump to truly successful HC. I do not want UNC to be the guinea pig.

Elliott should spend 3 or 4 years as a Sunbelt or CUSA or AAC HC. Then he would have a record of something more than a caretaker.

I think Satterfield may be the best for UNC. I think Norvell has major upside.

The only coordinator in the country I would be comfortable hiring as UNC HC is Venables.

Venables would be preferable but he is likely going to hold out for the K-State gig. I have a feeling he already has an under the table agreement with the PTB @ K-State to take the job whenever Snyder retires.

Mike Leach is my first choice.

Not a big Leach fan. The offense is fine, but no conference championships and only one division title back in 2008.

Lol. It’s because he’s Black. You’re so easy to see through.

Some people in the media are saying they think it will be Mack Brown, and possibly Chizik taking the DC job as HC in waiting. You would have to think our recruiting would be pretty good with two coaches that have won a natty. Recruiting is where the battle begins

Leach is the reason OU won its last National Championship: Stoops hired as his OC the SEC OC who most gave him fits. Leach changed the entire Big 12 with his offense, so much so that we now joke about the Big 12 being all offense/no defense.

Leach would energize fans, staring with students, and draw recruits. He would win. But fuddy-duddies always hate a coach like Leach, one whose IQ s at least as high as theirs and who bows to no nonsense.

No thanks

If Chizik is willing to come back as DC, with or without the HC-in-waiting title, then my assessment that he left at least significantly because he no longer wanted to work under Fedora would be proven probable.

Wont his kids have finished up high school in Auburn by now? I thought that was the major factor.

This. He even tweeted about how wonderful it was to watch his kid play. Woad has such an agenda, it’s comical.

The Texas Tech AD and Venables played together at K-St. I wonder if Venables would consider being a 1st time HC under an old teammate.

Throwing out some names
Chizik
Dave Aranda
Elliott
Satterfield

Wildcards
Kiffin
Kingsbery
Raheem Morris
Bobby Bentley -longshot but Hey, he is well respected in the Carolinas as a coach

A scenario like that would be the only way bringing Mack back would work for me.

Some people in the media seem to be VERY confident that’s what will happen. But that’s probably just typical clickbait journalism, trying to seem like they have the inside scoop. Then they look geniuses if it does happen. We’ll see though. Mack, Chizik and Kingsbery would be a powerhouse combo that could have us competing with clemson IMO. If we retain Thigpen then recruiting should be really solid. It all starts with recruiting. We need a staff that can bring in four and five star talent, that also have the grades to get into Carolina.

Yeah I'm not too fond of Chizik. His defenses weren't good here, and he's been out of the game since leaving. Auburn won the championship because of Newton primarily. We saw how good Fedora could look with Quise and some other weapons; Newton is Quise on steroids.

He's also about to turn 57. I'd be interested in Leach, whose got almost twenty years of winning under his belt at non-premium destinations with a variety of quarterbacks. Other than that, I think we should look for young guys that could presumably be here for a long time.

UNC is a big time athletic program. Why is it that the list of candidates only seem to contain coaches at a lower level, or assistants? Is UNC now the football equivalent of Western Kentucky? That seems like a list of candidates as school like that would have. Satterfield? I think he is good. And would probably do a good job. But everyone thought the same about Fedora in a similar situation a few years back.May not can get anybody, I don't know. But UNC has been described as a sleeping football giant for years. State has a ton of recruits. Let's roll out the bank book and see just who might be interested. It's almost as if we are looking at it from the standpoint of who would want this job.

That's not the list the school is looking at. That's just some list the media made. We may end up with someone on that list, but I doubt any of them would be Bubba's first choice.

campbell, satterfield, houston, brown(neal) in that order for me.

i’m not interested in anymore hot shot play callers that have zero experience running a program.

Pete Thamel has tossed in a name I've seen no else mention: Toledo HC Jason Candle. Thamel says this about Candle: "He comes from the Mount Union tree, which has represented relentless winning. The easiest sell for an AD is that he can become the ACC’s version of his old boss, Matt Campbell, at Iowa State. Candle can mold an offensively explosive and tough-minded football program in a division filled with mediocrity and regression."

The middle sentence make sense. Campbell looks very promising at Iowa St, and he showed the same promise at Toledo. Candle was on the staff the entire time Campbell was Toledo HC and so played a role in the program's fine 4 years. And his best Toledo team was better than any of Campbell's.

Based on what Campbell has done at ISU, I'd take him. But I don't think he will leave for UNC. He is going to wait to get a Big Ten job he wants or perhaps an NFL job. That is the reason CFB journalists are not mentioning Campbell as someone to consider for the UNC job.

But if you like Campbell, perhaps, as Thamel says, Candle is the guy to consider.

Nobody from Clemson unless his name is Swinney. He is the one that moves the meter with his recruiting skills. Elliott is a good coach, but you need a recruiter. Venebles? Easy to look good when one has twice the talent of the rest of the conference. Remember Oklahoma ran him off. So he is no genius.

OU ran him off stupidly. Those fans assumed the D was all about Stoops, Bob first and foremost buy also Mike. They have since learned that Venables made their D.

Dabo had the vision to hire the right pair of coordinators to overhaul the program: Chad Morris and Brent Venables.

I love Leach and he is the only guy I have above Satterfield, he is deluxe.
I like Satterfield as top choice but our AD isn't going to ask me for my opinion
I know you guys are getting tired of me touting Satterfield, but I love this guy. He's a North Carolina kid who might just like it so much at UNC that he might stay, like Dabo. I think he possesses every necessary trait that the great coaches possess, and he is still developing.

My greatest fear is that he will be gobbled up right before our eyes.

If I could, I certainly would. You continue to bust my chops about Satterfield, who would you hire?
In a perfect world?

1. Petersen
2. Leach
3. Campbell

After that, it’s all a crap shoot. I’m not huge on Satterfield but recognize he has potential. Still a big jump. I would much rather have Satterfield than Mack and Chiz. I’d rather have Fed back than Mack and Chiz.

I have absolutely no problem with any of those guys. But realistically speaking, Satterfield is our best shot.

at very minimum, a new coach with a new message and a new era will give juice to this program.

i’m as confident in that as i am in that roy takes too many timeouts home.

carolina football is better because of fedora and will be better after.

Mack & Chiz... LOL.
I would prefer Satterfield over those two as well, mainly because of the potential for him to do great things at UNC.... and if so, he could also be the kind of guy that would want to stay in Chapel Hill.

My only initial request is for the new coach to beat Duke. I know this program is capable of more, but you have to start somewhere.
