That place was ALL DAWG! The only thing making that not a home game was the Hedges were missing.

I was actually impressed. I didn't think it would be as close as it was. In fact, aside from that bonehead move by Fedora and the following safety, UNC could have won that game. That safety killed it. Fedora's penalty was dumber than anything I saw all evening.

The UNC defense was actually pretty good. The offense could have been better, but I saw many dropped passes. It was Mitch's first-ever real start and it was a baptism by fire. I thought UNC stayed with the favored home team very well until that safety. Then, that BS call that took Hollins 1st down away made it even worse. We got hosed on some critical plays and... I still think Fedora has some miles to go before he's legit.
I never expected a repeat of last season because Marquise Williams was THAT GOOD. I think we'll still come in 2nd or 3rd in our division. I wanted them to be in the game in the 4th quarter, and they were... very much so.

Don't start about crappy calls.....You guys got your share of gifts.

Your qb dropped the ball and they ruled it an incomplete pass...even though he was past the line of scrimmage.

There was 2 awful non-holding calls on that early TD drive
There was a blatant block in the back on the KO return for a TD
On your last drive there were 3 straight plays where holding wasn't called.

I respect UNC....but you guys didn't lose because of the refs. You lost because Nick Chubb rushed for 222 yards.

No it wasn't. Heck was easily inside 3 yards from the LOS. It was a terrible call, and Larry was completely right to bark at the ref about it.
Yes, I agree, the call was bogus. Fedora's fit added more dumb to their dumb call and it cost the team 15 more yards. He's the coach and that display cost the team big time. It riled-up the crowd even more, and stuck us in the end zone and then called a play that gave them a safety. It was the dumbest thing I saw all night.

No he wasn't, you f***ing moron. Here's the ball, well out of his hand, while he's still a yard behind the line of scrimmage.

But please, tell us more about the calls that weren't made while we're over here wondering about the crappy calls that were, like the BS defensive pass interference and ineligible man downfield calls.

No doubt Georgia outplayed UNC tonight. But the momentum of the game completely turned after a converted 1st down that was called back for a completely bogus OL downfield call, exacerbated by an unsportsmanlike call when Fedora protested. The refs didn't make us lose, but they didn't do us any favors either.

No, it was a 3-yard penalty because it was half the distance to the goal.
Fine... whatever. The crowd went apeshit and it was dumb thing to do, and the play that was called next was just as dumb. After that, very little went right.

There were enough calls favoring both teams in the game that the officiating was NOT what cost UNC the game. They lacked poise when it counted and the defense ultimately could not contain Chubb when they had to.

I'm not trying to bash our kids' performance. As I said in the OP, I expected a beat-down. When we were up by 10, it was like a win for me. I NEVER expected to be up by 10 points against that team!

Here's the bogus ineligible call, just for the record. Heck is clearly within 3 yards of the line of scrimmage as the ball is coming out of Trubisky's hand.

Nick Saban has complained for years about this call never being made when OL are 5 or 7 yards downfield. Here's an example of it being called when the OL is 2 yards downfield. Absolute trash job of officiating.

I gotta say; When I saw that on the BIG screen replay, it looked like he dropped the ball. His arm happened to be going forward, but that was a fumble. A few UNC fans around me even conceded the same... "We got lucky there!"

The Hollins first-down being called-back was BS to me. But, he also got a favorable spot... had he caught it.

Fed's "fit" didn't justify the penalty in fact the guy he was talking to didn't throw the flag.

Apparently, it did justify it. The ref that threw the flag on him was right next to him him when he threw the flag. He must have heard something he didn't like.

Nope.

The ineligible downfield flag was thrown by the umpire, who is to standing to the right of the screen in my screen shot above. That's who Fedora was originally talking to, trying to get an explanation for the call, but the umpire just walked away from him which is when Fedora started shouting.

It was the field judge who threw the flag on Fedora. That little troll came running down the sideline, all red-faced and excited to inject himself into the game. The picture you posted from SB Nation is the line judge picking up the field judge's flag. The field judge was so preoccupied with showing up Fedora that he stormed away after his lecture and forgot to pick up his flag. You can see this sequence of events in the replay.

That's right. I knew the guy who flagged him was in his face. Your pic is better.

Here was an explanation from a Dawgeventer:

First, I was at the Dome and had a birds eye view of the 2 DPIs and both were simply no brainers. I was shocked when I heard the color guy say the second was 50/50 when I watched the game on the DVR. In both cases the throws were placed where the WR could make a play on the ball and in both cases the DB made contact that impeded the WRs ability to make a play on the ball without making a play on the ball himself. Bama had pretty much the same exact call last night on Fitzpatrick.

Next, the OPI was a flat out block on what was supposed to be a rub route. The Wr released and went straight at the DB and blocked him. Just horrible execution on the wrs part.

The lineman down field is a controversial deal with the pop pass popularity but the UNC kid made it easy to call. First, OLs drift past the 3 yrd mark a good bit and it gets missed in the action. The UNC kid came off the snap and immediately moved to the 3 yrd area THEN he blocked a LB. DBs and LBs have keys to read and an OT run blocking affects how the LBs and DBs drop into coverage. An OL that drifts 4 yrds downfield but isn't flagged is a missed call and it's not justification for an OL to run block 3.1 yrds beyond the LOS on a pass play. That is exactly what the rule is there to prevent.

I thought they did a pretty good job last night overall. The arm in motion incomplete pass on Tribulsky was probably the right call given the rule. Otherwise you have to factor in intent. It was clear that he was trying to stop the "pass" or fake pass when it slipped out of his hands and that there was never any intent to throw the ball, but it is a lot I guess to ask officials to determine intent.

UNC did get the lions share of the calls go against them, but it is really hard to objectively say any of them were bad calls. Moet were a result of playing physical which is what you want (especially against an SEC team). These were two very evenly matched teams and the victory probably went to the team that made the least number of mistakes.

this guy has no business being on a college field for anything more than mowing the grass. The NCAA officials are too old. I'm 57 and in pretty decent shape and I wouldn't think about being out there. This guy looks closer to 67.

Look at the freaking video , our OL was 2 yards from the line, Then you and your dawgventer buddy come back with that shat. You guys must feel that play tainted your win because you just keep on and on trying to rationalize it. I don't think one person on here said it cost us the game , but it sure as hell put us in a hole and we didn't make another play on either side of the ball the rest of the night. Did one cause the other? I don't know and it really doesn't matter now..

Absolutely nowhere in the rule book is there a distinction between run blocking and pass blocking. All that matters is where the OL was during the pass. Your argument is invalid.

Go back and watch the kickoff return for a TD.......if you can't see a block in the back, you are blind.
you are seeing things and you do realize that if one of your player blocks another one of your players in the back , then the penalty is not on UNC...LMFAO. Your side didn't even protest and if you're a preacher then I'm the czar of Russia,.

Maybe you should teach your fans to respect women and not like act drunken retards. I saw on FIVE separate occasions, women nearly moved to tears because large male UGA fans walked by them, got within 6 inches of their face and barked in their face. Additionally, I saw a 40s-year-old man get escorted from the row behind me after he repeatedly "accidentally" bumped a ~12-year-old UNC fan next to him every time he celebrated a good play, until the boy's mom finally had to get a big guy beside her to talk to the the UGA fan....then when someone a row in front of him also tried to talk to him about it, the UGA fan and his buddy started throwing (and missing) punches left and right. This is while next to a 12-year-old kid and his mother.

I could go on if you'd like. I've got plenty more examples. I had to forcefully lecture another UGA fan who disrespected my girlfriend....who doesn't know the first thing about football and was just there at my request......in front of his crew of fellow Dawgs.

Most classless fans in the got damn world, which is why I actively pulled against UGA for the one year I was in school in Athens. It's why I routinely pull against Georgia whenever they're on TV and why I always have a soft spot for Georgia Tech. Enjoy your 8-win season assholes.

Oh, and don't give me the "every school has their few drunken idiots" line. I accept that for every other school, including UNC, but not for UGA (or Moo). Georgia fans repeatedly show how uneducated pieces of shit they are at every single football game I've been to that they're involved in, which is double digits.

This is what I hate about ref's (in any sport) not forced to make themselves available after a game to give there thoughts (excuses) regarding some of there calls. No public accountability at all.

If Georgia fans are worse than Tennessee, Auburn, and Florida fans, then they are something to behold - from a safe distance.

Auburn fans are actually some of the nicest, to be honest. Georgia and Tennessee are just so so bad. I don't have any experience with Florida fans and I'm probably lucky in that regard.

poorpreacher could mean preacher of poor, i.e. a welfare conman

Cam Newton's daddy is from Atlanta.

I've seen Auburn fans at games against Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Bama, and they have been awful at each. Of course, the Vols fans were even worse.

And I bet they all bragged about it later.

I've been to football games with a lot of different fan bases: Alabama, FSU, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Moo, Clemson, Georgia, Louisville, Notre Dame, etc. I've had some terrible experiences and some great experiences. It's a shame that the fan experience can be ruined almost by random: who you sit near, whether they can handle their drink, what the score is, or whether they're just a waste of human life.

UGa is better and deeper than we are at every position. They are absolutely loaded with talent.
Not at every position, but on the DL, definitely.

But I suggest you look at the game this way: What if there is no bogus Illegal Receiver down field call? Then there also would not have been the unsportsmanlike on Fedora and thus no safety. And, we would have had a 1st down and some momentum. If that one awful call is not made, you remove at least 2 points from UGA and perhaps 9, as well as giving us another shot to move near midfield to within FG range.

Then think of the Trubisky attempt to Switzer in the middle of the field. Trubisky very slightly under threw the pass, to an open Switzer behind the DB (the guy who came from Bama). Even with the slight under throw, that DB (a 5th year SR) made an amazing play to tip the pass away. What if he does not make an amazing play, timing his jump perfectly, and the pass is caught? Then, even if Switzer is caught and tackled, we would been in FG range.

That is how close we were to heading into the final 4 minutes or so of the game no worse than tied.

Kirby Smart has been the best DC in the country over the past several years, learning from Saban. Smart inherited a UGA team that had been playing a version of what Smart ran at Bama. Smart had all spring and summer to prepare to stop Fedora's offense, and Fedora is not Jimbo Fisher who can and will make major adjustments at halftime. My guess is that if Smart had only 1 week to prepare for us, our offense would be more effective against the same UGA players.

never said we lost because of the refs , but that was a bad call.

Even the announcers said Trubisky's was a pass and being past the LOS makes no difference on a fumble call. Illegal forward pass yeah but not fumble.
I definitely have to agree that there was a block in the back on the kickoff return for a touchdown and it definitely helped him get loose.
