With Meeks,Hicks,Britt, being seniors and JB and JJ possibly leaving for the draft. That will open it up for 5 scholarships to go along with Felton who is already commited.Carter and Mcoy along with some others can come in and play right away.

Roy Williams will indeed bring in some outstanding players this fall...

We're 1/5 of the way there with Felton on board. IMO, Tilmon may be next.

I truly hope our next offer goes to a true PG.

Also Stilman White will be a senior.

Lots of ships.

I agree on the PG.

A Woods-Felton backcourt is likely to be very exciting. But we don't yet know if either of them really has native PG ability. Getting a true PG could be huge.

After next year 5-6 slots will open and Roy needs to fill them. If there was ever an opportunity to get a top 5 class, now is the time.

Word is that he's pushing for the Carter/Bamba duo, which I don't know how plausible that is. I think we have a good shot for Tilmon and are in the running for Randolph, Washington, and possibly Mitchell Robinson. I'm worried that Roy won't go after Coleman or any PG, because there will be no point in acquiring all these bigs if we don't have someone talented to pass them the ball. There's no guarantee Berry won't leave after this year.

Bottom line is that Roy will ultimately bring in people, that's not a question. I'm guessing he will have the largest class he's had since 2012. We just don't know who will comprise that class other than Jalek Felton.

Exactly. I'd prefer to avoid a 2012 type season, as would everyone else.

I can't imagine Roy not going after a PG after the 2012 situation, but one would think it's time to make a move very soon. Especially seeing that kids start planning their visits and lists around this time.

I'm liking the Robinson kid. Word is he may shoot up to the top 10-15 in the next ranking updates.

The other thing Roy needs to do is compete for home-grown talent. It hurts to see top Carolina kids end up at Duke, State or Kentucky.

Are there any top players from NC in the 2017 class? I'm not seeing any when I scroll down the lists, but they show where they are playing, which may not be where they grew up.

Anyone know if the staff is still in contact with the Coleman camp . . ? Trevon Duval . ?

TIA

Trevon Duval isn't even worth thinking about until his dad decides to take him out of API, which is actually being rumored.

....Jalek can play the point guard position...

Hicks...?, Meeks...? Felton...?Pinson...? I think that it is crystal clear that Roy gets MORE than his share of the so-called, home-grown talent...

Not a banner year for NCHS prospects. Only one 4* Tyshon Alexander a SG and he has committed to Creighton for crying out loud.

Yeah, really good looking talent, swats everything, good length and ready to play body. Would love to bring him in with a couple other big men from this class.

Rose, I think you mentioned you wanted a PG from this class, I am not really wanting a PG as badly, I really feel we need 3 talented big men, that is where I want the focus, now if Coleman wants a ship, I would love to see that kid come to us. I think we stand a good chance at Joel Berry being back for A senior year, many disagree. But if he does leave, IMO between Jalek and 7th, I think we can cover our PG position.

I definitely agree we will need 3 talented big men to go along with Bradley (Assuming he doesn't blow up into a lottery pick). A class of Robinson, Tilmon, and (Wendell/Carter/Bamba) would be a great trio IMO. Did we offer Robinson yet? I heard he were "heavily involved" as was LSU and Kentucky.

Only worry I have is, like WWJD said, that neither may have natural PG ability. On top of that, I'm also paranoid when thinking back to Strickland/Marshall injury in 2012.

Even if they do end up having the ability to cover the PG position (which I believe Roy can get them there if that's his plan), it would be nice to have a guy who could run the position in the very extreme case that could happen.

Now that's assuming Berry, who does seem to be loving his time at UNC, does make the jump, which may be a bigger possibility than everyone imagines.

Yeah..only one in NC..committed to Creighton..smh!!..2018 has 3 in the top 100..and they all have offers with one commitment already from black..Hamilton could be next!!

2017 PG Nick Weatherspoon, who has an offer is set to take unofficial visit June 12th. Says UNC is recruiting him hard. Has a real close relationship with Davis and they talk every Wednesday. Relationship with Roy is growing. Expect to make a decision end of summer

I like UNC's chances with Weatherspoon.

I would be surprised if Berry is back after next year.

Why is he so low in the ratings? Are we just aiming for a backup PG at this point?

I realize we should have plenty of scholarships to offer, but I'm surprised to see offers to 2 low-ranked players (Witherspoon and Platek) this early in the process.

My concern is this: Berry, Britt and White are all gone. Maybe 7th or Jalek are good PGs, but maybe not. But even is one of them is, where's the backup? And if neither is a good PG or if we have injuries or slow development or whatever, where's the depth?

We need a PG. Maybe Witherspoon is good enough. I don't know. But the low rating makes me nervous. OTOH, if he really deserves to be in the top 30 and the ratings just haven't caught up, then never mind.

He'd probably be a lot better off than Stilman was his Freshman year. I suppose Roy believes Jalek and 7th could cover the PG with a guy like Witherspoon at backup. He had a great showing at one of the Basketball events. I believe he'll crack the Top 100 at some point.

As far as Platek goes, he can shoot the 3 very well. Hopefully it will translate to his college game. I do wonder why he waits so long to commit, citing that UNC his his "dream school".

Weatherspoon is blowing up. His recruiting is heating up now with some major schools. Wouldn't be shocked if he was a top 25 recruit by next year. If we can snag him on the visit, it would be huge.

That's what I like to hear. I hope you are right.

Roy has done well judging PG talent, there's no reason to believe he flubbed this one. he seems to have a high level of athleticism, and as @RoseHeel said, this youngster has been lights out from deep of late.

* A year ago, I would have guessed that Matt Coleman would have an offer from Roy by now, the youngster has made a few trips from the Tidewater area to Chapel Hill and rumor was he was longing for an offer. What is he . . the 3rd or 4th rated top PG in his class . . ?
I just looked at a couple of Coleman clips. The kid has some serious quicks. Why aren't we offering him?

I, too, wonder why the lack of interest in Coleman. He's a consensus top 5 PG and a borderline 5 * in most classes. And took 2 trips, so far, to UNC. I know we often cite handlers or trouble as a reason to avoid a player, but he doesn't seem like the "baggage" type.

Davis went to see him in April, so perhaps there's still a chance he gets one when we send out our next wave of offers for the 2017 class.

In a recent interview, platek stated that he grew up a dook fan..alot of the guards and wings we're recruiting will probably play the waiting game considering the fact that we're loaded at those positions!!..we could possibly return everyone at those positions..this is why no major offers at those positions have went out..no high level player who thinks that he is oad will come to us to sit and backup!!therefore, you see more of an emphasis on big men this cycle because the pt will be there for them from day one!!

I'm a little surprised he hasn't been offered as well. Witherspoon is coming on strong though. Coleman May not even come with Jalek and 7th on board but I'd like to see him get an offer.

Do you have a link to this interview? I remember him being extremely excited when UNC offered. That would be a very weird flip say the least.

I agree with the rest. Getting a 3-4 * Guard/Wing that can contribute when on the court would be solid for now when we already have guys who will be gaining experience.

Time will tell, I suppose.

Although I do think Berry could be on his way to the NBA by this time next year, him returning for his Senior season would make all of this null.

Coleman's pretty overrated. Expect him to drop in the rankings. Hasn't developed as expected.

TOS had the interview up about a week ago and free to the public..now you have to be a member to view it..sorry!!..but in the interview, you're right,he was extremely excited about the offer from UNC..he was just saying that it was crazy getting that offer because he was a dook fan growing up!!

I am aware of that. But he's more of a combo guard and not a true point guard like Lawson or his uncle.
Rechon Black can play PG. And he is a year behind I believe. We do not need a PG next year. We have Berry probably and Woods and Felton. Black the year after.
