Great timing to bring positive news out and hope it helps Roy in recruiting against all the negative spin out there.
I think this is partially a play to kickstart recruiting. It lets kids know that Roy will be there and the school plans to stick with him.
I hope this kick starts an even harder push for Roy and the staff to coach and recruit on a higher level and players to play on a higher level. What better way to crap on the haters is to make another run at another 3-4 titles over the next several years. This is also for all sports across the board. Let's make an unparalleled run for titles. LAX, Track and Field, WBB*, Baseball, Soccer etc.
Well deserved. There is nobody on the face of this planet I want coaching this program more than Coach Roy Williams.
As hard as it has been on Coach Williams in losing three close friends, having to deal with this NCAA mess and having his reputation challenged He has shown what kind of man he is. A contract extension is a nice reward for a man who has kept his head high during a long stressful year.
Consummate troll job, rolling out this news the day after the NOA is released.

Anyone wanting a new coach has lost their mind! I understand that we all get irritated when Roy doesn't use all of his timeouts and at some of his in-game substituting BUT he knows a TON more than we do, sees the boys work every day and has a much better grasp on what will help this team win!

Although Roy and I have our differences (which consist of me yelling at the TV for him to call timeout or to put someone back into the game), he has been an excellent spokesman for UNC, not to mention that he has bailed us out twice now.
There's no one I would rather have in his seat and hope he stays for many, many years.

I concur sir. In this day and age, to have a true gentleman who tries to do the right thing just because it's the right thing to do is a blessing. I have disagreed with Roy on numerous occasions but I am so proud to have him represent our university.
