Whether it's Knight or Calhoun, Roy jumps them and becomes one of the 4 best coaches in college basketball history with this win IMO.

There's a legitimate discussion on whether Roy is the greatest UNC basketball coach of all time.

But some of these numbers are absurd since he's come to UNC

Roy is 42-10 in the NCAA tournament at UNC. That means that Roy averages going 3-1 per NCAA tournament. Meaning ON AVERAGE Roy makes the Elite 8.

Still debatable. You have Wooden, Smith, K, Rupp, Roy, Knight, and Calhoun that you can argue. Personally, Calhoun isn't even close to me.

Regardless of whether he is the best, second best, or top 100, he is a wonderful individual and any of us who have met and come in contact with him know what a great individual he is. That is much more meaningful than W & L.

He has now attained legendary status at Chapel Hill. Will he ever be on Deans high pedestal? Somehow I don't think so until a generation of so goes by.

I love Dean , but he should have won at least 4 NC's. Roy is by far the better motivator. Did you ever see Dean give a player a stern talking to and then slap the floor?

Like I said give it a generation and it will be flipped. I for one think Dean was the better teacher and he was snakebitten several times with injuries to players who he couldn't do without. A healthy Phil Ford wins him his first Natty.

Jung, wasn't that you saying the game had passed Roy by not that long ago? Do I have you mixed up with someone else?

Roy has cemented his place even more firmly as an All Time Great with this season and National Championship number 3. He was already a Great Coach before tonight though.

Kinda like baseball you have modern era and golden era. Wooden and rupp piled up stars when the tournament was nothing like it is now. Knight k dean roy Calhoun pitino best of the modern era.

Dont feel like looking it up to confirm but nearly certain that since roy arrived at unc he has more
Nc's
Wins
Final fours
Acc titles

Than anyone

100% it was me. And to a degree I still don't think he's evolved great. The last two years were really something to me. We kind of reversed the clock of basketball. But results are the results.

The last couple years more than anything showed me that there is still a variety of ways to win at the college level.

Glad you will at least own up to it. Some don't. I had noticed that even your recent posts "praising" Roy were still laced with some criticisms, so wondered where you really stood last night/today. Appreciate your reply.
