Roy offers 2016 SF Maverick Rowan

So we see what Berry's ability to nail 3s does for the offense, and a day later Roy finally makes an offer to Rowan, who is a Wing who can nail 3s.

Let's just hope it's not too late an offer.

because he is white? He had and still has scholarships out to good shooters in 2015 (Ingram, Brown). I supposed you check out the rest of the 2016 class Roy has offered before making a comment like you did..... just sayin..

So we have seen a dearth of outside shooting for at least 2 years. And we have seen failure to sign outside shooters in the class of 2015. And all kinds of top coaches offered Rowan months ago. And the only reason you think I - who has said for years that failure to keep several top outside shooters on the team will seriously impair it - think it important that Roy has finally made another offer to a top shooter who easily could be burning us for years (say, at Louisville) is because Rowan is white.

I guess that makes sense, because the only reason I complain about us being hurt by Quinn Cook nailing 3s is that he is white.

Come to think of it, Berry being white must be the reason I am thrilled that he may be ready to break out and give us the 2nd consistent outside shooter we desperatley need.

It's mental acuity and obsessions like yours that made Julius Nyang'oro's career. Just sayin...

Yeah, I kept going back reading and thinking ................."where the crao did that come from?"

Even thou woad thinks Roy is suppose to offer every kid out there. And he seems to forget how many shooters Roy TRIED to get who chose to go elsewhere. But then, some just always want to find fault with Roy...............................oh well, it is what it is.

Sure seems the kid's father is driving this one, he has a strong "Lewis"ville bias. He has also finished (is finishing) his junior in HS. Just sayin'...

Okay, everybody move a side, the spin Doctor is here.....it appears that sk was a little over zealous with his reading and interpreted the enbolden (i just made that up) phrase as such....Roy finally makes an offer to Rowan, who is White who can nail 3s. Then proceeded to put his foot in his mouth.

If that's not it....then I got nothing. Because his post sure as hell came outta left field.

over zealous is an understatement. Must be reading something that the rest of us don't see.

I think sk got woad mixed up with another constant Roy-basher.
The other guy has whined on about "white YMCA shooters" for years.

You name your kid "Maverick" and you put serious pressure on them for SOMETHING to happen!

Centers all over the country are full of undersized white kids that can fill it up from downtown ! I coached 2 such kids this winter in Greensboro that could out shoot everyone on the team except Paige. They were fearless and could flat out shoot the rock. Nothing wrong with having a couple of white kids on your team if you are a school like UNC that is a predominantly white school. Nothing racist about it , these kids can't jump out of the gym and in some cases may not be quite as athletic so they work on their 3 pt shot more and use it as an equalizer.

Lebo could flat fill it up! Isn't he tied along with Hubert and some others for most 3's in a game? 8 I believe.

Shute man, I'm thrilled when we can get 8 from the whole dern team!

Sorry, didn't mean to come across the way it sounded. Just sick of people bashing Roy "for not recruiting shooters". It took Rowan to get offered for Woad to say Roy finally offered shooter. Here other guys that were and have been offered from the 2016 class that can shoot the ball:

Harry Giles
Dennis Smith
Jayson Tatum
Malik Monk
Kobe Simmons

But it takes Rowan to be offered to say Roy is recruiting shooters? Also, yea we have been an below average three point shooting team the last couple years, but lets forget that Bullock shocked people by leaving early, and PJ Hairston would be a senior right now. It put Roy behind the 8 ball. To say he doesn't recruit shooters is just false.

Not a single one of the guys you listed are known as "shooters". Can some of them shoot? I imagine so. But none specialize in that skill. Giles is a PF. I'm not sure why you even listed him. The other 4 are all very good players and they all do many things well. But what many here have bemoaned over the last couple of years is our inability to find a marksman on the perimeter - a guy who specializes in shooting the ball from deep range. Some UNC names that come to mind that fit this description are guys like Lebo, Calabria, Donald Williams, Wayne Ellington. Some more recent non-UNC players that fit this description are Nik Stauskas, Jimmer Fredette, Scott Wood, and Pat Connaughton.

I don't know this Maverick kid at all so I can't confirm that he is or isn't a shooting specialist. But I'm just trying to clarify what some of our fans have been complaining about because from the look of your post, you are confused.

Gunslinger, where in the post I responded to stated Rowan was a shooter or that was his specialty? Those words were never stated, sorry. I took it as saying he was the first person Roy is recruiting that can shoot a three and that he is hasn't in a while. Which is false. All the recruits I mentioned can shoot the three. I'm sorry they do more and aren't considered "three point specialist". There are scouting reports on Harry Giles comparing him to Kevin Durant and Kevin Garnett with also saying he is an outstanding three point shooter, hence why I mentioned Giles. Three point shooting were Reggie Bullock and PJ Hairston strengths coming out of high school with Roy saying Hairston has the best shot of anyone he has ever recruited. Curious on why you didn't mention them? If Bullock didn't leave early and Hairston stayed out of trouble, we wouldn't be talking about lack of recruiting "shooters" or lack of three point shooting the last 2 years. Misunderstanding? Maybe, but don't call me confused.
